"Discovery and excitement" would be about right, Jean, I just keep finding more wonderful things I can do with woodcut and with art in general. Glad to hear Gayle's youngest shares my love for spiders on my birthday cake! Thank you. But for me one very wonderful phrase about your work stands out, "my art concerns the similarities in shaper and pattern between plant, animal and landscape." You are innovative, creative and working toward a big contribution to the art world and it is wonderful to see it happening, wish I could attend the show in person. marilynn ------------------------------ From: Aqua4tis@aol.com Date: Fri, 19 Apr 2002 12:18:31 EDT Subject: [Baren 17901] Re: Good News, New studio jeanne woo hoo!!!!!!!!! congrats and blessings on you and your new studio georga ------------------------------ From: Julio.Rodriguez@walgreens.com Date: Fri, 19 Apr 2002 12:47:07 -0500 Subject: [Baren 17902] Re: drawing transfer - two step tracing 04/19/2002 12:47:24 PM I have the luxury of a nearby Kinko's for using Copying equipment. Most of the copiers at Kinko's are capable not only of "reversing" the original image but also of creating a "negative" B&W effect on your original. In this computer age we are in, others may choose to scan their drawing directly into their PC, reverse the image and/or add other special effects as needed. There are many other methods of tranferring the drawing to the block. One which I have never used before (till this past wekend) and yet seems so basic and simple is that of using carbon paper to do a "two-step tracing" process also known as double-tracing. If you are acquainted with this, you need to read no further. It calls for a sheet of carbon paper to fit your drawing. In the first step we place the carbon face up underneath the drawing to create a reverse drawing on the backside of the original as we trace over the original. In the next step we place the carbon face down on the actual block and we turn the original drawing around so we can trace using our "new" reversed drawing and thus create a proper transfer to the block. That's it. Perhaps a well-known trick around printmakers circles, but new to me. My thanks to Utemaro Azechi for the ongoing enlightenment.
