I'm right now finishing a 4-disc set of DVDs that show my visit to Hayter's in 1983, and I'm thinking about adding a little about viscosity printing. Another professor and I talked about the need for a "virtual" Hayter Institute in homage to Hayter, and I'm doing a woodcut now for the background of a print I call "Homage to Hayter."" Thanks for your thoroughly interesting welcome, and your observation, about test prints, that "the results of each trial are still images, yet somehow alive and loaded with possibilities." I was at Hayter's on Rue Daguerre in 1974 and would love to share stories. I guess we should do it between us, not on the Forum. I'm intrigued by the DVDs, which I see on your web site. Are they for sale? And I love your work on line! By the way, when I returned from Paris I studied printmaking at Rhode Island School of Design with Larry Heyman, who had been a student of Krishna Reddy. Viscosity printing was very big at RISD then! I see that I will rapidly cease being a lurker here! How could so much energy get into such a small compact package? Your work and dedication are inspiring! I couldn't find the horse...maybe your site is just so big we get lost looking at all the wonderful images..such a sad thing to happen! I love the cactus from #12. I found my copy of 'Storyteller Without Words' for less than $80. If you are persistent, you can find Ward titles (except for the two or three real limited editions) for reasonable prices. The "ABE" search is here: http://dogbert.abebooks.com/abe/BookSearch At the auction sites, try searching for "Lynn" Ward instead of "Lynd" Ward and maybe you'll get lucky. People sometimes mis-list his name and the items don't go so expensive. Hope this helps somebody! Feel free to contact me about Ward. If I don't know the answer, I can probably find someone who does. The response has not been what all of us have expected. So get yourselve in gear. They are talking about extending the deadline a month if that would help anyone get a print in. >From Carol: "PLEASE, encourage your members to take part in the Portfolio. If we have only a few hundred artworks instead of a few thousand, it will confirm public attitudes towards artists as uncaring, whiners who want the government to support them while they thumb their noses at the community. We know that isn't true, but we have to prove it and this is a simple way to show New Yorkers and the world an overwhelming response." So lets get those prints to me, one 8x10" vertical print celebrating one life lost in the Trade Center tragedy. Ship prints to Barbara Mason 4440 SW 198th Aloha OR 97007 Info about the portfolio is here http://www.printalliance.org/ It would be nice if we had more that the 9 prints I have in hand to represent the Baren Forum!
