Hi Maria, Oh dear. I keep hearing from friends on the east coast that their holiday shows were crap, too--that people just stayed home instead of getting out. I'm wondering if your experience is normal for this show, or if it was the weather, or what? Shows have always been bad down here, so I don't have anything to compare it to. (And please, anyone in the Austin area, I'd love to hear about any good shows, so that I can change my tune about that...I'd dearly love to be proved wrong on this one.....) Your experience reminds me of the International Quilt Market that I did in 1999, spent $1,200 for the booth, hotel, food, etc. for both I and my husband, got sick as a dog from all the pollution, and came home with ONE sale of $13! I'm not kidding. Now you know why I'm not in that business anymore....sheesh. Look on the bright side...you have less butt, and that's always a good thing . I have a Blazer, but haven't tried the fine art of sleeping in it. Eeek. Maybe the one in AZ will be better....one can always hope, right? I sure hope your butt grows back. It used to be just fine. Now what did you learn from this mishap? It doesn't sound like you did anything except pick the wrong time and place. Only 2 weeks to the next one? Maybe right this time. Here's to you! Fondly, Bea Gold (p.s. No idea of weight, either... Maybe Bea or Barbara would reply and let us know about these? Basically, no. I'm working on a web site and hope to have it up and running by the middle of February, if not sooner. When I finally do get the site up, I'll let you know. > Any specific problems in printing you need help with? (be as specific as > possible and whoever works that way can respond) I don't have specific problems -- just general ones!!! Hehehe. Basically, I have a hard time judging when the woodblock is sufficiently inked and what the consistency of the ink should be. (When I switched from water-based to oil-based block ink, the first problem seemed to be less of a problem, but then the consistency problem happend.) After talking with Maria, I think the answer to these two problems is just more experience. And speaking of Maria, sorry to have disappointed you by not being a wealthy gallery owner. I'll tell you what -- when I become rich and famous and have my own chain of galleries, you will be a featured artist, okay? In the meantime, keep printing!!! And now back to something important -- my lunch! Linda P.S. "Out of life's school of war.-What does not destroy me, makes me stronger." My name is "Ld" Lawrence. Im a painter and printmaker... Ive recently moved from New York to Sequim WA. (a small town on the fabulously beautiful Olympic Peninsula) I have a Conrad Machine Co. portable (if you can call 375 lbs portable !) monoprint/etching press, and Im quite pleased with it. I generally dont use it for relief printing as I prefer to do those by hand. The Baren site is most inspiring...I want to do more woodblock and relief prints in the future. I do a lot of intaglio with emphasis on drypoint. Being a bit of a Ludite, I dont have a website or images of my work up. Someday..... Im currently involved with building a series of images having to do with cows and Innana. Not really sure what direction its taking, but I plan on getting it all into a limited edition book form by April. The baren site is a wealth of info and Ive just scratched the surface. Very best wishes to all on this list for a peaceful, healthy, creative and jihad-free New Year! One at the NW PrintCouncil gallery in Portland that has already been announced, and we will also have a Baren Exhibit at the Beaverton City Hall in August of 2002. They have room for at least 50 pieces so I will just pick as many artists as I can from the exchange prints I have. I have been in all but two of them, so have quite a few to choose from. I think 1 and 6 are the one's I was not in, so if you were only in one or six and would like a print in this show, email me off list and you can arrange to send me a piece before August. I will publish an artist's list as soon as I get it together....Wahoo! I really like giving this kind of good news out to the list!
