If I had participated in #6 I would have sent him my copies, but wouldn't you know, this is one of the few I did not take part in. So if you are the artist and have an extra copy, send it to me and I will collect them and forward to Steve. If you are just willing to give up your prescious copy, let me know and we will see if we can get a full set for the archives. Maybe we are short as people only sent 30 prints forgetting the archive copy. Maybe for future exchanges coordinators need to remind participants that this archive copy is important and could be around longer than we are! Or is it really necessary to wet sand at all? - - What is the best way to transfer a pencil drawing (graphite) to the lino? Iron? Strong Elbow Grease? Chemical? Spoon?, etc.... My pencil drawing is on 100% rag layout paper, so.... - - Is it mandatory to mount the lino to wood? I bought this lino in a 24 x 48" sheet, unmounted. I got more questions too, as far as I know we are suppose to send 25 (?) prints to Rudolph...on a flat package ( except for those outside the US having mail restrictions...)....right ? My press can accomodate approx 18" X 26"....is that considered large enough to meet the requirements of this exchange ? What is the largest and smallest dimension acceptable ? I know the info board says 22"X30" (or 22"X32") ...that's a big difference in paper size, thus my question ! If we need to stick closer to the larger size, no problem, then I will get on a plane and fly over to Vegas so that Maria can teach me how to print with her truck..... thanks in advance....Julio ------------------------------ From: "Lee and Barbara Mason" Date: Fri, 4 Jan 2002 17:41:10 -0800 Subject: [Baren 16626] Re: More questions > - Is it better to treat the battleship grey lino with wet sandpaper first, > then transfer the image? Dan, sand your block if it is rough, ours are not so we do not sand. > > - What is the best way to transfer a pencil drawing (graphite) to the lino? > Iron? Strong Elbow Grease? Chemical? > Spoon?, etc.... My pencil drawing is on 100% rag layout paper, so.... Usually we use graphite paper and trace the image onto the block, I have no experience transferring graphite onto lino, I know with etchings we used to dampen the paper and run it through the press and it would transfer onto the grounded plate, I will ask for you next week when I see an expert in this stuff. > > - Is it mandatory to mount the lino to wood? I bought this lino in a 24 x > 48" sheet, unmounted. No but it is easier to register if it is mounted on a block. Maybe other lino people know more than I. Best to you, Barbara > ------------------------------ From: "Lee and Barbara Mason" Date: Fri, 4 Jan 2002 18:02:56 -0800 Subject: [Baren 16627] sad, sad news Bareners, I just received a sad letter from our ever faithful friend Jeanne Norman Chase. Her studio (small house) was totally destroyed by a fire. Fortunately she did not live there, it was about a mile from her home so she is safe and sound. She has dropped me a note asking me to inform all that she will not be able to take part in the exchanges she is signed up for, this includes the Horses (all ready to be mailed) #12, the blocks were all carved, The big print exchange and the gospel print show. Her spirit is pretty down, but she is tough so will come out of this eventually. Sadly much of her life's art history was in this studio. This is such sad news, I know we will all want to support her. She said she will have a computer again soon and that her husband is clearing out a small place for her "studio" in the garage, but of course her press melted and everything else is gone. Perhaps we can all send her something to help her get her studio back up and running, even if it is only a horse or a note of encouragement. Her address is: Jeanne Norman Chase 1602 Bay Rd Sarasota FL 34239 Email me off line if you would like her phone number.Needless to say, her email is not working.
