Baren Digest Wednesday, 5 December 2001 Volume 17 : Number 1640 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: "Jean Eger Womack" Date: Tue, 4 Dec 2001 05:56:50 -0800 Subject: [Baren 16344] Re: Baren Digest V17 #1639 Thanks very much Graham and Maria and April for all the helpful suggestions. I tried printing my clay print (bisqued and then sealed with acrylic medium) with tempera paint to see if it was suitable for kids. I had to roll up the tempera on a piece of wood in order for the brayer to actually roll. I printed it on plain old card stock which had been dampened. It worked pretty well, though I did not get crisp edges. Marilynn, I really wish you would send in your prints to the print exchange! I know that many people are looking forward to getting them, me included. We are not wood snobs. I love to use linoleum and I always use it if I am too stressed to deal with wood. I just think about the Picasso linocut of the lamp and I always wonder if I have a lamp in me somewhere. I have a question about using different paper, that is, if you print some amount of prints on one color paper (bright white) and then another amount on a cream colored paper, do you have one edition or one edition, two states or some other descriptive? Thanks in advance for the advice. frank ftrueba@cats.ucsc.edu ------------------------------ From: "bemason" Date: Tue, 4 Dec 2001 16:22:05 -0800 Subject: [Baren 16351] Re: editioning question Frank, You have one edition, with varied papers. Because you did not change the plate or the color of the ink or the type of ink or the way you rolled or wiped it on. It is always good to write on the back of the print any changes in the editions, say 10 prints on BFK and 10 prints on Arches Cover or whatever. Re recent posting about attachments that may have viruses. May I recommend that the list server be set up to strip any attachments from Baren posts. This is a function that can be set up by the ISP and is automatic function. I think that Dave would have to initiate the change. Opps.... that last post on this subject was meant to be sent to Wanda. I forgot to change the heading.... Sorry folks. I will assume...(lord knows one should never do that) that the first printing was/is on bright white paper and to be the first set of prints. Then you decide to change the colour of the paper and you wonder what to call it. Barbara made a good suggestion about dialogue on the back of the prints and or a separate print out with the explanation that can be put on the back of the print (acid free paper) or stuck to the backing board of the mounted print. This would show on the back of the framed print. But what to call it.... I would suggest that if the edition size of each colour paper was the same then State l and State ll would be the most appropriate. However, it you have only done a few of the second coloured paper then Edition Veri=E8r is appropriate. V/E is written in one corner where the number would normally appear. I just finished a drypoint and after doing the edition of 7 prints wanted to experiment with the plate and got 3 pieces that survived and these are labeled. V/E My plate is still capable of more prints and someday I may very well start experimenting again and incorporate a woodblock introducing colour with the copper drypoint delicate lines. Trust this helps.
