Baren Digest Monday, 5 November 2001 Volume 17 : Number 1608 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Cucamongie@aol.com Date: Sun, 4 Nov 2001 09:04:03 EST Subject: [Baren 16106] fireman print info, solar prints Carol, do we send the 3x5 " card to you or to John?? If to you, what's your address again? Also, on another note, even though I know this is a woodblock forum... I took a whirlwind one-day workshop in solar printing yesterday with Dan Welden, and it was terrific! I made several plates from charcoal drawings I had done, and the subtlety of line and texture that can be transferred to these plates is astounding, I showed the prints I made to Jeffrey and the artist who shares his studio, and they both thought the prints looked like lithographs. And to add to the fun, Dan was showing prints of students and I saw stunning prints by two bareners, Barbara Mason and Don Furst. What a nice surprise! best wishes all Sarah ------------------------------ From: "G. For instance, do we send Carol a copy separately from the 30 we send to John? Or does John send a whole set to Carol. Do we make 30 of those 3 x 5 cards or just one that goes with Carol's set that either we send to her or John sends to her? Then it can all be sent out together. Carol ------------------------------ From: "bemason" Date: Sun, 4 Nov 2001 07:59:30 -0800 Subject: [Baren 16109] printmaking Sarah, Thanks for the kind words about my solar plate, I sure had a good time making it with Dan Welden, who was my house guest during the print symposium here a few weeks ago. We are in the middle of our annual open house and fundraiser art sale at the NW Print Council this weekend. I have been doing little monotype demos for three days and it brings home the thrill actually creating a print. I have had people from 10 to 80 standing around watching and this afternoon I am going to do hands on so everyone who shows up can actually make a print. It is so much fun to see people's eyes light up when they pull the paper off the plate. As artists we are pretty used to the creative process and take this magic for granted. Seeing it happen for the first time for someone is such a high, most people who are interested in prints don't actually make them. There is some kind of mystique about printmaking that it is hard (well, it can be) takes a lot of expensive equipment (well, it sure can) and can only be done with years of experience. Well, that makes it more consistently successful, that's for sure. I love telling peole that printmaking is easy, fun, needs very little equipment and there are many processes you can do on your kitchen table with just a few simple items and without spending thousands of dollars. I think I have encouraged quite a few to try it out on their own, sometimes I get frantic phone calls, but not too often. Most people can do this with just a bit of help. Thanks Baren, for all the personal help over these last three years, I would never have done block printing if I had not joined this site and would have missed a whole section of printmaking that I have learned to love. OK, go out and cut and print! Best to all, Barbara ------------------------------ From: "Bea Gold" Date: Sun, 4 Nov 2001 11:24:44 -0800 Subject: [Baren 16110] benefit paper Thanks Dean, We came back from NYC to find both the paper I bought and the one you sent for the benefit. They came in good order and the benefit paper was packed so beautifully I hated to open it. Thanks again. Almost ready to print. I'll let you know.
