I just received my "flora" prints back, courtesy of the US Post Office, with a note that said: "All packages weighing over 16 Oz. must be presented to a postal clerk at a post office for their stamp". (I had mailed my box from the office). So, my prints didn't go out Thursday, well, they did but..... I will resend today from a post office. Any one who hasn't mailed thier's yet, now you know. - -- Daniel L. They are not archival and if not sealed correctly with u. v. light they are water sol. besides i like to cut my own images. On another matrix I am finding out that corian counter top works equally well as an engraving printed either as a relief or intaligio I think it can be printed both at the same time as well. Most matrixs can be printed in more than one manner but gennerally work better with one method such as wood engraved blocks can be printed as an intaligo but the wet paper and extra pressure damage the block after a short number of prints. The corian material engraves very well and in very detailed work can be engraved better than maple and prints solid blacks much better (wood feels better and you can engrave for longer with out your hands hurting or your tools getting dull) Box wood engraves better than any thing out there but it is very small and costs an arm & leg even for a small block much less for a large block which are not even avaiable. Another plus for the corian over copper NO BURRS. I have my horse block cut just looking for the details on how it gets mailed etc. I am going to have a one man show next march in chicago area will give out the details much closer to the opening. john center ------------------------------ From: Graham Date: Mon, 15 Oct 2001 14:24:53 -0700 Subject: [Baren 15966] Re: Baren Digest V17 #1587 john center wrote..... >are solor plates different from polamer plates? As I understand it Boxwood does not grow large... 2" would be considered big. To achieve big plates the wood is squared up and glued side by each into a large plate. Think of the meat chopping block and you will understand the end results. Graham Just so you know.... I've already started preparations to commence horsing around. I for one am 'in'. Concerning last year's cards that did not arrive - I kept a list of all the people who failed to return cards - I'll dig it out for you. I will be sending cards to those whom I know will return them, and to those from whom I receive them. Ps Jan dont apologise for using correct English spelling, if a large number of people choose to spell incorrectly, you dont have to join them .... the correct spelling is colour and always will be, see the OED, we are speaking English after all. best Josephine ------------------------------ From: "Bea Gold" Date: Mon, 15 Oct 2001 17:10:40 -0700 Subject: [Baren 15968] Re: horsies I'm riding in on Maria's horsie. C., and saw the Library of Congress's exhibit called (somewhat redundantly) The Floating World of Ukiyo-e. It's a splendid exhibit with some extraordinary prints from their collections. A slight step is taken into the 20th century with works by Hiratsuka Un'ichi, Munakata, Bertha Lum and others. The Library put out a thick cagalog (about $50), but the 20 page pamphlet that's free is one of the finest small presentatiions I've seen. If your in that area the show is well worth a visit. It runs, I think, until sometime in January 2002.
