Baren Digest Sunday, 30 September 2001 Volume 16 : Number 1572 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: FurryPressII@aol.com Date: Sat, 29 Sep 2001 11:51:15 EDT Subject: [Baren 15796] Re:extender extender dilutes the pigments thus creating transparencys depending on the extender used it is the same material that the pigment is mixed in. The more you use the more transparent the effect. You may need to add a dryer such as colbalt dryer. with the use of a rain bow roll or split fountain you can get the effect of a wash or fade in your print. I've been thinking about tiles myself. Penrose tiles are pretty cool. On my return, I was happy to find that here is still much left here in New York. I was away in California visiting my parents Sept. 11 when the big bang came down. Terrible to watch from so far away, though it was probably worse from close up! The city is still quite distracted, with bridges and tunnels closed or restricted, and subways re-routed or stopped. You still need ID to enter a big chunk of downtown, but it is hard to realize the enormity of it because so much of the city remains intact. Artists seem to be either numbed or stimulated into much activity. I (numb) was happy to help a friend (active) make some anti-war silkscreen posters. "OUR GRIEF IS NOT A CRY FOR WAR" seemed like a good sentiment. You can get stickers on line at http://www.freespeech.org/fsitv/html/stickers.html I am thinking about what sort of prints I will be making when my spirits rebound, any day now. Meantime, I master-printed for the Monothon fund raiser at Connecticut GraphicArts this week, a worthy cause, and fun to hang out with printmakers. I drove out with Susan Rostow, and we printed some nice monoprints with her Akua-Color. I thought maybe we could use push pins and found out the walls of the front Display room are well set up for exactly that. The Library is in a historic building, busy and well utilized. Community would be very receptive. Library director thinks it is a good "can do" idea. Time is available, details can be arranged. Should this be followed up?
