Baren Digest Monday, 10 September 2001 Volume 16 : Number 1550 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Lynita Shimizu Date: Sun, 09 Sep 2001 09:48:52 -0400 Subject: [Baren 15632] Re: exchange-D-lines Yesterday the prints from Exchange 10 were mailed to a patient and understanding group of participants. As a result of my experience as coordinator, I suggest the following: 1. All prints be due on the date of the established deadline. 2. Any prints received after the deadline would be returned, unopened, to the sender. (A one week grace period could be discussed.) 3. A waiting list would be maintained for only one month into the exchange so waiting list members would have time to complete their prints and/or sign up for the next exchange. (Not so sure about the time frame for this suggestion.) The risk of smaller exchanges would exist, but by adhering to strict deadlines, all members would know exactly what to expect; it would be fair to both the coordinator and participants. I'll resist the temptation to reveal the gory details of coordinating the past exchange, but at one point, I found myself suggesting an appropriate exchange theme as, "The Illustration of Excuses Why Exchange Deadlines Can Not Be Met". ---- Hope the dog doesn't eat this message. :-) Lynita ------------------------------ From: "Maria Arango" Date: Sun, 9 Sep 2001 11:35:26 -0700 Subject: [Baren 15634] RE: Dremel Attachment <<>> In the Woodcraft catalog and web site http://www.woodcraft.com the specific item is Flex Shaft Reciprocating Carver. They have a model for Dremel and a model for Foredom at 49.99 adn 59.99 respectively. There are also several Power Carvers and complete sets, but now you are getting into the $200 range. Flexcut Power Carver Blades are good with either attachement and go for around $12-15 ea, including a 1" chisel and a 1/2" spoon gauge that would probably make quick work out of clearing large areas. The rotary tool itself I found worthless for large areas, it is much quicker to clear by hand with a decent sharp large U-chisel. But with the reciprocating tool...different story. Happy c-c-c-clearing! I do not always do such things, only on rare occasions. Interestingly marketing is quite a trick and some of us are better at it than others. I told an online friend that I had decided to pull all my work from my gallery and redo everything. It is not at this point selling like it did at first. The grouping left is not well matched and does not show a consistent direction. I was ready to just pull it as the year is so busy. But my my a great gallery in Seattle with a good location and wonderful people to work with . leave it?? wow I woke up early in the morning and decided I needed to be very consistent. One of those little rules again. So I am setting out to mat and frame all of my black and white prints in nice acid free white mats with quality black frames and in the center will be one color piece, a print of one sort or another. I think I know which one. Rather than give up we must re evaluate periodically and judge for ourselves what rules we want to follow. I am very independent and do not like to be ruled by the slides or the consistency thing. But still there are times when I must bend to this to have the successes we all desire.
