I saw the photos Bea sent us to see, but I have some questions. How does that press work? Also, regarding the registration board, what are those slits in the narrow long boards that surround the mother board. It is almost all up on the web, so go look at http://www.freewebz.com/ipanews/serven/ipanewsartists/IPANEWS.htm This is a free site so ignore the advertising. Anyone who wants to contribute articles about printmaking is encouraged to do so. They are still working out the kinks of getting it all up, but all the articles are there. Congratulations Arafat, for a job very well done. It is a tool that does not work like a rotary (a Dremel) but like a gouge. When the tip finds resistance it pushes forward, therefore working like a carving tool. It is terrific, especially for large areas and hard woods (or sprained wrists, like me now). Something I could use to easily produce type and > >other elements for relief printing? Look forward to hearing from you, and > >hope you have some good ideas for me! You had some great ideas! I followed up all your good ideas, and one suggestion led to another until eventually, one of the suppliers recommended I contact Rod Grantham at http://www.granthams.com and WOW! His company, Grantham's, sells a starter kit for making photopolymer plates up to 3/16 of an inch thick. The kit includes a video tape, "How to Make Rubber Stamps", three ounces of liquid photopolymer, three 4"x5" base sheets (the base of the relief), post exposure powder, and a roll of dam (to keep the photopolymer from running all over the place. They sell the starter kit for $59 -- US shipping included! Rod tells me that you can assemble everything you need to make thick relief (letterpress) plates for less than $100 !! And you can expose through laser-printed negatives. I've ordered some material and will let you know how it works when it arrives. This seemed to me to be the most efficient direction, by far. Again, thank you EVERYONE for your great suggestions and assistance! Mike ------------------------------ End of Baren Digest V16 #1547 *****************************
