I am using Water Soluble Inks by Graphic Chemicals. The black didn't seem to want to roll over the wood. It wasn't the wood's fault because I used the same wood for each color. The mixed burnt sienna color went on well. The black seemed too slick. I used the "vehicle" in each and it seems I might have used even more of it with the burnt sienna color than with the black. I didn't measure. But I could not get that roller to roll over the wood. It just seemed it couldn't grab. I can't seem to get my larger gouges sharp. They seem so thick that they can't get into the wood very well and try as I may I can't seem to get them sharp enough. The small tools sharpen like a dream, and I especially like Eli Griggs' wood hones. They do better than the sharpening stones. But I even tried the stones with the bigger gouges and they just don't have the sharpness I want. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong. The ink sounds like it may be to thick. It should roll out with the least bit of "tack". Maybe add a few drops of water. The gouges are I suspect held at to high an angle. Lower the angle until they are pretty flat and you can pull a "wire" off the edge. Then strop. I use the kind that fits on my drill. It just takes practice and patience. Good luck. But I have been thinking about the exchange sizes and can change my thoughts to say I do not like to print over 30 myself. Right now it is almost impossilbe for me to get time to do another exchange so I wonder if we need more? As many of us push for an exchange and maybe need a rest before we can do another??? I like the idea tho of 2 seperate exchanges with the same rules and theme for each with 2 seperate coordinators rather than an exchange that is not recognized or displayed as a baren exchange. As I am certain those left out have as much talent as those included. It could be tried when there is interest enough and if not enough sign up than the idea could be scraped. I would not sign for a waiting list because I feel I probably would not get in because this group seems to hang tough and do the work, so that would not in my opinion be an indicator unless we said if there are 30 on a wait list we will put them into a second exchange. Than we might rush to sign again and see??? I don't think there is any question of talent - not = everyone has to be or wants to be in every exchange - there has been a = suggestion to limit entry to those who have not taken a place in two = exchanges and also to double exchanges with two separate coordinators as = you suggested. Most responses have been to leave it alone - it ain't = broke. Still listening. Bea Gold ------------------------------ End of Baren Digest V16 #1498 *****************************
