I was there yesterday, between snowstorms, and it was beautiful! All the prints made a fabulous display. It is a lovely gallery in the heart of the busy Soho art action. The Director, Angela Di Bello was very nice and had a photo taken of your wall with me in it. They said they'd send it to you. We're not usually down there; we live 40 minutes north of NYC. We had theater tickets nearby so it worked out really well. It was a home run with a man on first and second- A break in the weather, a parking space(!!), your exhibit, a fabulous restaurant, a good play-our Anniversay. There is sooo much to be learned from the Encyclopedia that you can really get lost in all that information. Thanks Bea for suggesting that Gillyin go to the source of the White Line technique that is in our Encylopedia. Sometimes it is sort of hard to find. Join our After Five group Gillyin, it is for talking about other things than woodblock printmaking. We have a Bar in there where we meet and greet folks. I loved the explanations of white line techniques, as I am not a hanga person yet. I was a bit overwhelmed by all the information on hanga and know that before I attempt this I will take a class. I wish I could take grahams boot camp this spring, but things are so tied up here. I was delighted to see you back Graham even tho you left right after I joined and I do not know you well. Now I can get to know you better and will feel really delighted if I can indeed get to that boot camp. In the encyclopedia I would love to see some general info for those of us who are just moving into woodblock that describes how to start on the more oil based I guess it is european style methods. I have done quite a few lino blocks and think this would be the place for me to really get a start. I have now a sketch I would like to use and have ordered Mcclains catalog, finally. Thanks for being a great group and sharing so much info. marilynn ------------------------------ From: "Murilo Pereira" Date: Sat, 10 Mar 2001 18:44:42 -0300 Subject: [Baren 13804] Re: Exchange 9 charset="iso-8859-1" - -Hi, Wanda, please remove me from Exchange 9, Unfortunately I won't be able to participate. I wish I could attend every opening, of course, but just too tight with upcoming festivals right now. Thanks very much for the visit and the compliment. Go woodcuts! Wonderful stuff--even in black and white. Welcome back, Graham. You are already livening up the digests! I have mixed feelings about the zippy baren and the man digging (a grave?) on your web site, but the new print is super. <^><^><^><^><^><^> Michelle Morrell jmmorrell@gci.net <^><^><^><^><^><^> ------------------------------ From: ReadDevine@aol.com Date: Sun, 11 Mar 2001 04:24:58 EST Subject: [Baren 13808] A lurker unmasked I've just resubscribed under a new server so I'll take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Mellissa Read-Devine, and after 'having a go' at wood cuts and wood engravings last year I've found I'm hooked! Tragedy, after years of oil painting, I now go to sleep with potential woodcut images in my head; ah well, sanity was overrated anyway. I'm living in Sydney after being in Darwin for some time and I'm used to the traffic now. I miss the old road signs - "We like our lizards frilled not grilled" Sorry, this has nothing to do with printmaking. I have a couple of meagre efforts on a web site http://depicture.bigstep.com & with all the inspiration and info I get from you guys, more to come! ------------------------------ From: "C. L. And Sarah I knew you had gotten in, but I couldn't tell because of professional ethics (though I was wanting to anyway!). I will be the one who hangs your work for Works on Paper. This is going to be a really good show. If any of you got rejected, do not feel bad in the least, though I know that you probably will a little if you're in anyway like me. I always feel bad when I get those rejection slips. It was very heavily applied for and the works were absolutely stunning! They have inspired me to try to be better! Best wishes, Catherine ------------------------------ End of Baren Digest v14 #1350 *****************************
