Baren Digest Friday, 22 December 2000 Volume 13 : Number 1255 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Ray Hudson Date: Fri, 22 Dec 2000 05:52:47 -0500 Subject: [Baren 12600] A wider baren Although I enjoy the comments and suggestions and tips regarding various types of relief prints, I treasure Baren's commitment to woodblock printing. This art is so wide, so ancient, so full of possibilities, so (should I say it here) underappreciated that to broaden Baren to lino etc. would dilute more than enrich the multitude of postings. Must say that whenever some other type of relief print is mentioned I usually think, "Now how could I apply that to wood?" Just a thought. Many times you can get them to cut down the scraps from jobs for a nominal fee. Think it is made of powdered PVC dust. Works well for collographs too. Because the material is so compact, you may want to experiment with other than your best carving tools! Or give the electric drilling tools a go as well. It seemed more erratic for control as compared with carving white pine. Good luck- I agree it has alot of potential! Happy Holidays to all. I use cobalt drier with no problem but I have also used Tu-way(I think i got that right, it has been a while since I got a can) It dries both the outside and the inside at the same time and won't make the ink or paint crack. I bought it from Rembrandt in NJ. I print very thick layers of ink and would really be slowed down if not for drier. More input! Carolyn ------------------------------ End of Baren Digest V13 #1255 *****************************
