Sure David and I have had our disagreements and yes, even arguments, however it is important to acknowledge that during the last three years he has caused the happening of a most informative and wonderful vehicle for the communication of our SPORT. This has caused the happening of Boot Camp and it in itself has furthered the knowledge of the SPORT. We have seen many come and go and this will know doubt occur as time passes. I know they will take a lot away with them yet contribute equally, building the strength of the group. There has been lots of fun jibbing, oh and at times serious jibbing but all of this is a part of communications for a vibrant organization. It is healthy as long as it does not hurt. This last few months has been most stressful for Marnie and I and just this week another private post arrived that was most insulting and terribly unkind. It was certainly up there with the one that darted me and my exhibition of work with Walter J. Phillips. I endeavoured to turned the other cheek but this time I think I will move on to the Bleachers. I will be pleased to answer any enquiries directed to me personally but will not participate in this forum. Boot Camp will probably go providing there are sufficient bods to make it interesting. We sense that our stepping back may cause some that have shown an interest to bow out.... so be it. Please remember we are here for as long as our energy is and will help when it is requested. Create-Cut-Print Kindest regards. Dave, I hope you are still available for hanga consulatations! One of the best things about the original forum was that it gave me access to information about hanga printing in Japan. I was feeling isolated working in this esoteric Japanese medium, when I found this great source of specific information on Baren. I found your descriptions of visits to the old printmakers and craftsmen especially helpful to understanding the nature of traditional hanga woodcut. Anyway, we move along, to more discussions of contemporary printmaking. Posture is as important in the 21st century as it was in the 17th, Graham and Dave have different ones, all I can say is that it is important to stay well balanced. Keep checking your posture, keep centered, and don't forget to breathe! Where do I send my check to help maintain the website? Eli, I'd love to get detailed instructions on making this baren you described! Hope you can help...I'm new to making barens, so would need pretty detailed info. Thanks so much! Carolyn ------------------------------ From: Wanda Date: Thu, 07 Dec 2000 09:46:48 -0700 Subject: [Baren 12375] Re: Brave New World ... update ... Thank you, people, for the warm welcome & the notes of appreciation. I am more than happy to help with this great list! Now, I would like to explain a few things. [Baren] is a *moderated* list - - which means there is a moderator and this person receives all the posts and has to approve them before they are distributed to the other members of the list. Mostly it is just a job of stripping out unnecessary header stuff and html and mime format. I remember when I first joined a mailing list (way back in the dark ages) I made every mistake a poster *could* make. So, believe me, I understand if you don't know how to change the settings on your e-mail program! However, I do not intend to let any hurtful, mean-spirited, or demeaning posts go through my hands to the general list. So if your post doesn't show up on the list - you'd better go back and read it again! I will not delete just the mean stuff & send it through - I will delete the *entire* message. So be warned! Not that any of you would do such a thing, right? This list, under Dave's careful parenting, has grown into one of the finest mailing lists on the 'net. Let's keep it that way! Oh, and by the way - I'm not going to run your message through the spell-checker, or correct your syntax for you. And if your message isn't clear -well that's up to you! If you feel that something isn't right - please contact me (off-list: robertson@canby.com) & we'll work it out together. I'm easy to work with. :-) Just ask anyone! Onward and upward! When they are talking about position, they are talking about sex. (And thank you for asking!) "How do I set my e-mail program to make it easier for you?" For list etiquette, go to this page: http://barenforum.org/information.html#Posting If the answer you need is not there, I'm sure that someone on the list can help you change your settings. We have people using every program & every kind of computer on here. I use a Mac, so I can help you Mac people. And in general, almost every e-mail program has a thing called "preferences"or "settings". You can go in there and turn *off* html coding, or mime & that will be a big help. For those of you having problems with cutting and pasting - just run your mouse (with the clicker down) over the text you want to get rid of, and press whatever button deletes that stuff on your computer. Now is that last sentence confusing or not? ;-) Do not, and I repeat, do *not* delete your hard drive! Computer stuff *is* off-topic - but hey, we are here to help each other. You can ask the question on the list, but please ask to have replies sent directly to you. For those who wish to contribute to Baren: Thank You! As soon as we have our non-profit status, we will be posting an address to send donations. Meanwhile, we're doing well, thanks to the generosity of David Bull. What a really great group this is. I am so proud to be a member of it. Naomi, thanks for the report on the show at Alamosa, wish I could have been there! Did you happen to grab any fliers or anything from the show? write me off-list if so. As for chops, for those in the NYC area, there are a couple of places in chinatown where they make them for about $20-25, write me off list if interested and I'll try to dig up some addresses. I had one made and the work was impeccable. The place where I went also sold sumi-e paper at a reasonable price, I'm not sure what it's made of, they actually do call it "rice paper" even though that's a politically incorrect name for it! this week I got great snakes from Philip & Ruth, thanks a lot!
