Baren Digest Tuesday, 31 October 2000 Volume 13 : Number 1199 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Vollmer/Yamaguchi Date: Mon, 30 Oct 2000 11:31:53 -0400 Subject: [Baren 11901] Compulsivity Dear Kat, Yes indeed, hanga makes it easy to print a lot of announcements in color. I printed 150 four color 5 x 6" prints in 4 hours. Of course after a LOT of preparation, cutting and dampening paper, choosing colors, setting up. But once you are set it is easy to do many prints. When I do a small one, I cut several colors on one large block, one color in each corner. That way it doesn't slip around. The thing to remember is to be sure the kento for each color is at the front of the block as you print so you don't have to reach over. Also with a small print you sometimes want a weaker baren, your ball bearing one may be too strong for a small print, it could smash the paper fibers, so be sure the paper doesn't get too wet, and don't press too hard. And yes, my Frog print for Frogman's is a 2 block reduction cut. It is a great way to get lots of detailed carving all lined up perfectly. if you use good paper you can keep overlaying color 20 times or more. The only drawback is that you have to decide how big your edition is before you start. And you have to work very freely, trusting yourself. Both can be an advantage in a medium that encourages compusivity! ciao for now, April April Vollmer 174 Eldridge St, NYC 10002, 212-677-5691 http://www.aprilvollmer.com ------------------------------ From: "Daniel L. Although I did not know him personally, he was well-respected among printmakers in the Bay Area. The name of the exhibition: "Woodcut prints.com"=20 (the words 'Woodcut prints' in Hebrew). I wanted to emphasis the contact of the exhibition to the virtual world. In another e-mail i will send a BMP image of the exhibition's Hebrew name. Opening will be on the 20th November. No formal opening. The duration will be about one month. I asked Julio for advise on how to take care of sales -=20 if there will be any demands (hope!). I will e-mail a map of the part of the country where this exhibition will be held. I will include some pictures of the place itself (i don't have a digital camera). Hope every thing is covered!? Is it?=20 Arye ------------------------------ From: "Maria Arango" Date: Mon, 30 Oct 2000 19:19:13 -0800 Subject: [Baren 11906] Re: Beit Gavriel charset="iso-8859-1" Wow Arye, how wonderful! Thank you for your efforts for making this exhibit a reality. I want to emphasize that this type of herculean (and volunteer) effort on the part of our members is what makes this forum/group the absolute best in the web. This will be our fourth exhibit as a group, correct? NY, Skokie, Kampala, and now Israel. Was there a Tokyo exhibit as well in the early Baren days? Thanks again from all of Baren. Maria PS Any pictures you want scanned, just send them on to me and consider it done. We can then upload on the woodblock site. I wish I could just hop on the private jet and take some photos myself, but all we have out back is an old burro. <><><><><><><><><><><><> Maria Arango, Printmaker Las Vegas Nevada USA http://www.1000woodcuts.com maria@mariarango.com <><><><><><><><><><><><> ------------------------------ From: Legreenart@cs.com Date: Mon, 30 Oct 2000 22:42:13 EST Subject: [Baren 11907] Re: exhibition opportunities Dear Baren, I am looking for printmakers who do fine art prints on-non traditional subsrtates or objects for inclusion in our exhibitions. If you would like to submit for this exhibition opportunity, please contact me, offline (See below). Dragon and Snake Postcard artists, With your permission, I would like to display the dragon postcard prints and snake prints at Stonemetal Press in January. It will be the inaugural exhibit for Stonemetal Press' tenth anniversary year. I will display my set as not for sale, unless printmakers who have additional postcards on these themes would send them for sale, priced. Stonemetal keeps 30% of sales price, so price with that in mind.
