Congratulations on your ribbon Gayle. Love those prints and would like to see the how the pins turn out. And ooh yes, there is quilting. Hand and machine. It probably doesn't show very well because the resolution is bad. Must redo. http://homepages.msn.com/timessquare/kfberkenfeld/ > From: GWohlken > Date: Wed, 11 Oct 2000 10:41:51 -0400 > Subject: [Baren 11670] Re: Baren Digest V13 #1175 > > Karen, I've been enjoying your quilts. Oops! Seriously, I do it a lot. I once printed 110 for the local conservation society. After that they went to silk screen! Stick a piece of Contact paper on the inside front of the shirt to stabilize the fabric and keep the ink from going through. Try Liquitex Basics paint. ------------------------------ From: LEAFRUTH@aol.com Date: Thu, 12 Oct 2000 18:55:33 EDT Subject: [Baren 11690] Re: Baren Digest V13 #1177 I would love to see Karens web page with her quilts and I keep getting the message that the web page is not accepting viewers? Yes, right you are, I printed on linen to make the birth quilt. That was a while back but I am still working with birth imagery among other things. Sorry I've been so uncommunicative. I don't really think of myself as lurking as much as one of the people in a room of 200 who would be least likely to speak out. I'll work on changing that visual--a cozy group of friends in a pub?... I enjoyed your site Karen. Your quilts are gorgeous. I use oil based ink on various fabrics and you're right, it gets rather stiff, but for my work it doesn't matter. the latest printing on fabric work I did had to do with witches and the witch hunts. I printed on fabric panels and stitched them on other panels that I had written out text from the infamous 'Witches Hammer'. The images are powerful but got too depressing even for me. My humour prints are drying as we speak in the print studio I work in here in Northern Ireland. By the way, I have 2 prints in the print shop's virtual gallery should anyone be interested go to http://websites.ntl.com/~seacourt/Gallery%202.htm Oh, I am thinking of facilitating a Baren exhibition here. I spoke with a gallery in Belfast who would be very intersted (by the way, they know Jim Mundie's work and wondered out loud 'How does he get that detail...' 'Razor blades!', I divulged.) Anyhow, we're thinking June-ish 2001. Before I commit I'd just like to get a sense of the level of interest from you all. I think that the 'usual' amount we've sent for frames (US$25) would be necessary. So, what do you think?
