Baren Digest Monday, 2 October 2000 Volume 13 : Number 1164 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: B Mason Date: Sun, 01 Oct 2000 06:43:57 -0700 Subject: [Baren 11521] Baren suji Congratulations to all who sent info and of course to our wonderful Maria for "printing" our newsletter. Again I am amazed at the talent and enthusiasm for printmaking within this group of people. Pat yourselves on the back! Then go to your studio and cut, print and so on! The more we do, the better we become and this hanging together as Ben Franklin says is sure a lot of fun! Saw your posting inquiring about decalcomanias. Salvador Dali made several of these "paintings by accidental impressions". I have seen these in the Dali Museum in Florida some years ago. Apparently Max Ernst also did some. Dali's were executed around 1935-1936. They sort of look like you have squished paint between two pieces of paper. I recall some of his that were contrasty (black and white) with maybe some red or pink. Hope all is well. There is a sign on it saying California Department of Health. The local Kaiser hospital looks like it was built to be a prison also. There is no smoking practically in the whole state of California, in case you were planning to visit here. We just finished watching the closing ceremonies of the Sydney 2000 games. There is no doubt that the Australian are standing just a little bit taller these days. Wonderfully creative (there's that word again) opening and closing and a magnificent accomplishment by their athletes. And all this was achieved with a population of about 20 million It boggles the mind to think what if they had the population of Russia or the States... Hats of to yu mate.
