As a felllow printmaker, I am not sure whether I feel inspired or intimidated. I once made an artist's book by submerging a paperback copy of JAWS in a fish tank. After awhile the pages fanned out beautifully. It sat around until scum formed on the surface. I called it "California bookfish." My husband took a bible to the desert with him and used it for target practice. I think we gave it to a fellow printmaker whose husband had been murdered in Oakland. That was his version of an artist's book. I guess that is more conceptual art than printmaking, but what the heck. Is this also called xylography? I'm studying a book called WOODCUTS and there is mention that xylography was etching on endgrain wood. Is this the same thing that Andy English does--xylography? I'm doing a little display for the Kent/Geauga show of different wood techniques (just the three -- western style, hanga style and wood etching) I don't have a lot of room in the flat showcase, but I wanted to at least cover these three with a small explanation of each--just to whet the viewer's appetite without getting too detailed. Shireen, WOW! what a beautiful collection of books and prints. I am so impressed with your style of woodcuts and the energy of your cuts. Very nice and very polished, either you have been doing this for a while or you must be one of those masters people keep talking about ;-) The nice kind of master, not those nasty wizard-conquerors.
