The mosaic dates 4 years back, after we moved from Switzerland to North Carolina USA. We have here a lot of marvelous large yellow butterflies, so I made them yellow on the mosaic. The frogs and the wasps were already fine, we live close to a pond and have a lot of them. Now some rabbits have shown up around the house, apparently well educated, they eat only the grass, but spare the flowers. So everything adds nicely up. (Note, your mailing was associated with a problem.) Lynita beautiful work, I especially like your birds. Once I did some penguins as a wall hanging, but the cats got it down rather quickly. I am pretty new to this method of woodblock)printing. I attended Graham Scholes workshop in early summer meeting some of the more prominent and active members of Barren's. I am in my late 40's and years ago graduated from an art school in Seattle and worked as a graphic designer. I no longer work in an art related field but find I can't kick the art habbit; having done sculpture, drawing, painting, etching, and woodcarving. I find Japaneese woodblock printing encoporates many of the elements of the mediums I have explored. I live in Portland, Oregon. My wife and I have a 12 year old daughter. We also have a cabin on an island in Puget Sound and much of my time and energy goes to this. I look forward to all of this... - -Kent ------------------------------ From: "Maria Arango" Date: Sun, 13 Aug 2000 19:29:18 -0700 Subject: [Baren 10954] a question for the knowing charset="iso-8859-1" Hello all, Back from a wonderful vacation and roaring to go at it. But first, the inevitable cleaning up of the mailbox and other things around the house (if you have big dogs, you know what I mean ;-) Here is a message that some of you knowledgeable folk may be able to answer: "Dear Ma'am, I recently purchased six original prints by an artist named Paul Helms. I took the prints to some local galleries, and they were identified as woodblock prints. All the prints are signed and dated around 1908. they all have Hamburg written on them as well as what appears to be the word handcolored. Everything is written in German, so we cannot decipher the rest. If you could provide me with any information regarding the artist, or possibly direct me to any other sources of imformation it would be most appreciated. Thank you for your time. Sincerely, Sam Knapp Lobo3210@aol.com If you could please respond to this gentleman directly or to me off list, I would appreciate your help. Nice that you have come on board..... Having spent a week with Kent..... it was a pleasure having you at Boot Camp. The piece that Kent did was most ambitious. You can see a small section of the design.... After a little heart to heart talk about the design (it was 4 times this size) he did a quarter and image, picking one corner. http://members.home.net/woodblocks/images/pKent.JPG For a first time effort most commendable indeed. Regards Graham & Marnie (how's the finger by the way) Nothing as heroic as a knife or chisel cut.... Tangled with a car door .....(<; Didn't even cry..... ------------------------------ End of Baren Digest V12 #1113 *****************************
