Dave, I hope this works better, as it is coming from the 'right' address at last! Georga -- Yes, I know Hiroki, too! Have spent total of four weeks as his student. What a wonderful person, and patient teacher. Makes great sushi, too! He lives in Hawaii most of the time, but has a daughter, a professional dancer (ballerina, I think?) who lives in New York, which is why he is regularly visiting and teaching there. I have his address somewhere, I think, if you'd like it...? This I learned from an american englich teacher here in IBEU, FlorianF3polis, Santa Catarina, Brazil , in later fifties. Finished hearing about a plane that fell dawn near Paris killing every passengers, all German, i began thinking in the wonderful contemporary German artists i knew from books, studying and seeing tehir works here in Brazil, in the "Museum of Art of SE3o Paulo" and in the "Bienal of SE3o Paulo". In 96 I sawe a great collection of the work of five of them i don't remember by memory their names, but were Per Kirkey, his great, I know a little artist's book he made that's sensacional, very simple, but it's like the discover of the gun-powder. Besides we - they and I - are in the same age, around, and do the same work, of course i'm not in Berlin. but in a little town in the south of Brazil. But I do love them, this boys, Per Kierkey, Markus Lupert, Kieffer, and Joseph Beyus, Georg Baselitz, ther is with them a wonderful "neoexpressionis naEFve" that i'm creating now, if it is possible. This was a "footprint" I've learned with the American English teacher in the fifties here in FlorianF3polis, Santa Catarina, Brazil, from where I'm talking to you at this moment. I'm sad with the news I've heard now on TV about the plane that fell down in a city near Paris, France, ce soir. I suffer asking why it must be this way, is it necessary for the developmente of mankind? All the death were German, that made me taught in the wonderfull contemporary German artists that I know by book , studying, and also seeing originals in SE3o Paulo Museum of Art (MASP), and the Bienal, Per Kirkeby, he is an exclellent painter and engraver and sculpor, and Markus Luppert, Baselitz, Anselm Kieffer, and someothers I know pretty good but can't remember names . Here in Brazil we have the mots most wonderful Livio Abramo and Osvaldo Goeldi, both already deaths, think they were the our fathers . I saw a collection with the works of 5 of these artists it was work on paper - that's all i love, all i need! - 5 x 5 , were 45 works, beautiful, beautiful, it was in MASP. These guys are great . Kirkey was in Bienal too. We have the same face - if you know what i mean. Sooo... there is a woodblock teacher living here in Hawaii? I wonder if the Honolulu Printmakers could fix up a class or something? Do you know if he is currently printing and showing anywhere? Do you have a web site? Sometimes you can send a scanned pic of your work and put it on the Baren pages.in the Encyclopedia. Yes, I agree with Philip, but even the young folks have probably been getting out their magnifying glasses to read your posts. If you would put it at about a 12, it would be great. Peeking thru the curtains I could see a couple of printmakers working away at a large press...only the kids prevented me from stopping in. Perhaps someone here at Baren is familiar with this place and this group....they seem to have quite a elaborate web presence with a large variety of options for members....with a number of classes and programs to benefit from. Don't know how the fees compare with the rest of the country.....let me know....the waterless lithography class with the guy from Tamarind sounds interesting.... http://www.chicagoprintmakers.com/main.htm Thanks...Julio ------------------------------ From: Aqua4tis@aol.com Date: Tue, 25 Jul 2000 18:18:07 EDT Subject: [Baren 10621] Re: Re hiroki mike id love to have hiroki's address thank you he was so nice and patient i just wish id had more time with him jd they are just postcards of his work id gladly send you one georga ------------------------------ From: "john ryrie" Date: Wed, 26 Jul 2000 15:14:57 +1000 Subject: [Baren 10622] retro > > Barbara said: > You (all of "Baren" ?) and a couple of others have suddenly noted that my messages are dated back to 1939.... Long-time members of [Baren] may remember that last summer (hey, one year ago is a _long_ time on the 'net ...) we had a kind of little 'contest' here on the forum. We were finding that in the middle of summer there were very few _interesting_ postings coming through - everybody seemed to be away at the beach or someplace - so we looked for a way to encourage good discussion among those who were left slaving away over a hot computer. It worked very well, and many good discussions resulted. So shall we ...? http://woodblock.com/forum/silly (or get to the page from the 'Administration Links' section of the website ...) But play by the rules, OK! Dave ------------------------------ End of Baren Digest V12 #1089 *****************************
