[Baren] the mailing list / discussion forum for woodblock printmaking Baren Digest Tuesday, 18 July 2000 Volume 12 : Number 1081 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: B Mason Date: Mon, 17 Jul 2000 20:19:43 -0700 Subject: [Baren 10507] summer camp Wanda and I survivied our first day at summer camp. Poor Wanda didn't sleep last night and was a little rummy. I had a house full of company that fended for themselves today, nothing gets between me and that To. We are going to learn a lot in 5 days, today we made a black and white plate and printed with sumi ink. Tomorrow we are doing a plate in white, two shades of gray and black. Reduction method. And after that a color print. Quite a bit for a week, but we are afraid of that whip, so we will work hard. Several of the class stayed after to work, but Wanda and I know our limits after bootcamp, and we wisely went home at 4:30 like any sane person would. There are 15 people in the class, which is in itself daunting for an instructor. Several have printed before, but most have never done woodblock. If I can get Wanda to bring in her digital camera, perhaps we can take some pictures of the finished prints. I will take in some hanga prints as the ones Yugi brought were all oil. He moved and couldn't find his examples, but fortunately I have quite a few and just received the swap shop prints so now have a beautiful example of a calla lily, done by the famous Wanda, to show off tomorrow. We will let you know if we learn anything new and exciting. Yugi Hiratsuka is a patient and relaxed teacher, he said "do it the way that is the most comfortable and works best for you." This is what we were doing anyway, but valadation is alway good. Can't hardly wait -- so hurry up folks, let's get this little idea a'rollin'! Jean Eger wrote: > > Barbara, > What a treat to take a class from Hiratsuka! Jean, we are having a blast with Yugi - there are 17 people in the class, but he seems to be taking it all in stride. But boy, oh boy, he's not afraid to assign us homework. I'm pooped & going to bed early tonight - my turn to drive tomorrow! Our friend, Suzi, is just starting Hanga - Barbara & I have both been initiated into the addiction via Graham & Dave & all the boot-campers. We hope to get 14 more converts from this class. Whoo-hoo! I don't know if he has anything up on the web - - I'll ask tomorrow. Wanda ------------------------------ End of Baren Digest V12 #1081 *****************************
