[Baren} the mailing list / discussion forum for woodblock printmaking Baren Digest Wednesday, 3 May 2000 Volume 11 : Number 996 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Bella1yopp@aol.com Date: Tue, 2 May 2000 12:06:48 EDT Subject: [Baren 9581] Re: beginning printing Shireen, Are you using a press or hand printing? If a press, it could be your pressure. I have had very mixed results with waterbased inks and watercolors. Yes, your block could be getting too dry. I am not familiar with the paper you are using but I once purchased this mystery paper that was quite beautiful only to find out that it was not very useful in block printing... it would pull off in layers, so not only was it probably not sized but how it pulled apart told me it was not made well. Good luck! - -Amanda Tucson, AZ ------------------------------ From: Bella1yopp@aol.com Date: Tue, 2 May 2000 12:59:22 EDT Subject: [Baren 9582] Re: New Participant Walt and Gemma-Welcome! Walt, you should appreciate this... I too love Leonard Baskin's work. A print of mine is in the collection of the Scottsdale Musuem of Contempary Art and the recently had an exhibit featuring several prints in their collection. My print was on display across from Leornard Baskin's... I was thrilled. Again Welcome. Could someone email me the info on the Skokie Library exhibit? I know I have the invite around here but like everything important... I misplaced it. I am trying to update my resume. I just need the dates and ... well everything. Thank you. ------------------------------ From: Arafat Alnaim Date: Tue, 2 May 2000 10:04:35 -0700 (PDT) Subject: [Baren 9583] Re: The origin of the Baren > Sounds like a interesting book to me, can you give > me some more > information about it so I can find it here in > austria too. Quietly, our very own Greg Robison has duplicated Julio's herculean efforts and our prints now hang in the National Gallery in Uganda. Opening night was Monday, May 1st. A huge thank you to Greg for organizing. Simultaneous exhibits in two different countries for Baren members...can you say: "Ay Mamita!?" APPLAUSE!!!! Virtual cheers, whistles and standing ovations to all of Baren and especially the dedicated two members and many virtual pats on the backs to all. On an unrelated announcement, new prints on Maria's site, check out new works Lullaby and Handful from the front page. Second workshop is done, I don't have another one until June. My students came up with some nifty prints. Unfortunately, Dick Blick's new management is shutting down the classes operation, too bad because that has been a tradition with them. So probably next workshop in my studio. Also, UNLV's Continuing Education has put my classes on Woodcut/Relief Printmaking on their fall schedule, yippeeeee!
