[Baren} the mailing list / discussion forum for woodblock printmaking Baren Digest Thursday, 8 June 2000 Volume 11 : Number1038 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Julio.Rodriguez@walgreens.com Date: Wed, 7 Jun 2000 13:40:41 -0500 Subject: [Baren 9969] While David is away....baren suffers breakdown! Catchy subject ! Hopefully david does not mind, but while I had the chance I took some scans of his baren. For those of us not having the "real" thing at our disposal....I should say that it is quite a tool, a thing of beauty. While I was not able to actually use the baren to print, just holding it and doing some "dry" runs I could sense the power of the tool. Quite a difference from the student level barens I own. Click on the images for closeups. http://www.skokienet.org/bandits/jcrstuff/baren.html For the whole story on and more info on the making of a traditional baren......... http://www.woodblock.com/encyclopedia/entries/001_01/001_01_frame.html Thanks...Julio ------------------------------ From: Kat Pukas Date: 7 Jun 00 12:53:22 MST Subject: [Baren 9970] Re: X-Mailer Lezle, April, Karla... As soon as I get into Vermillion, I'm going to rush down to the CoffeeShop Gallery and look over the Frogman's exchange prints. :) [Baren]: Are we thinking about the next print exchange's theme...? I vote for a print showing where one lives, that is pretty broad yet would be interesting. Home towns of the world sort of thing! Julio, Thanks for the good pictures of the baren! Hope to see it in person in a week or so! Like myself, I could do something about palm trees, water, ancient Seminole indians, the ocean, Miami, old folks, tourists, severe drought, well, many things could represent where I live. Kinda like an open theme with a theme. Maybe I need a drink afgter all. Can't even spell right. dan dew Tampa, FL ------------------------------ From: Wanda Date: Wed, 07 Jun 2000 15:06:58 -0700 Subject: [Baren 9974] Re: exchange #7 Maria Arango wrote: > > Perhaps more broadly, the theme should be based on the now famous Mason > quote: > "make your own reality"? > Maria I'M TRYING, I'M TRYING........ :-) Wanda ------------------------------ From: Studio Dalwood Date: Thu, 08 Jun 2000 09:29:12 +1000 Subject: [Baren 9975] Re: Baren Digest V11 #1035- SAcred trees Ruth said "Josephine, I've tried to access the url several times for acay.com etc. and was told that the server does not have a dns entry. I have also not received any mail from print Australia. I sent Christina my Sacred Tree print. I'd love to hear from you." Ruth I just checked the Print Australia mailing list and you are on the list as ruth@ruthleaf.com I suspect that all your mail is there. We have been talking about (and to) you on the list in the last few days. If your mail is unobtainable from the ruthleaf.com address then you can view all the archives on the mailing list website which is http://www.egroups.com/group/PrintAustralia but you must be a member to do so. I have just made up an exchange mailing list using the ruthleaf.com email address for you, should I change it to the aol.com address? I'll wait to hear from you before I send any mails out. Anyone else who thinks they are in the exchange and didnt get my test mails yesterday, mail me, please! I have put up a page on PRint AUstralia that has some information on how to join the Print Australia discussion list. Its at http://www.acay.com.au/~severn/discuss.htm The sacred tree exchange information is at http://www.acay.com.au/~severn/discuss.htm Im working behind the scenes to update it at the moment. I'm enjoying the discussion on here lately, just too busy to respond, apologies. I wonder how much 2000 swis francs is in aus dollars? In the meantime, please enjoy the Rover Thomas prints. He is one of the few aboriginal artists whose work I admire. The NAtional Gallery had one of his huge paintings hung next to a Rothko last time I was there. The curator had made the same connection I had.
