[Baren} the mailing list / discussion forum for woodblock printmaking Baren Digest Thursday, 25 May 2000 Volume 11 : Number1018 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: gcarter@gsaix2.cc.gasou.edu (Greg Carter) Date: Wed, 24 May 2000 10:32:52 -0400 Subject: [Baren 9723] Greetings I have been lurking in the shadows for a few weeks and thought I should introduce myself as a new member. I am Greg Carter and I teach printmaking at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro GA(Near Savannah GA). I am a mixed media printmaker and I explore a wide range of processes but have been curently working a lot in planographic processes(plate litho, waterless litho, polyester litho and paper litho). I have done a lot of woodblock work in the past and have begun to get back into it. I have enjoyed the web site and list and look forward to paticipating in a future exchange. I must say that Exchange #5 looks great. They are german (Kremer I want to say but they re-label them so I am not sure I remember out of the top of my head; I am at work after all). They are excellent and great to use. Their site is sinopia.com If you have questions feel free to ask as I own quite a few of them. Anxious to see your work. Do you have a web page? You have to be lightning fast on the exchanges as they fill up fast. However since you are new to the exchanges, you will get first click on the next one! Dear Horacio, Thank you very much for the feedback. I have been thinking of a series on Shamanism, which would include (and could not possibly ommit) carnival and it's variations. Right now, I am participating in competition on the Patras Carnival 2001, and since the samba dancers have become a world-wide accepted symbol of Carnival, I thought I'd use an image of them. Reading the characters for 'Ju nin, to iro' in Chinese, it would be 'shi ren, shi se'. My question is this,do you know why there are two different spellings for the same character (ten) in this proverb? A Dog that had seen a Physician attending the burial of a wealthy patient' said: "When do you expect to dig it up?" "Why should I dig it up?" the Physician asked. 'When I bury a bone," said the Dog, "it is with an intention to uncover it later and pick it." The bones that I bury," said the Physician, "are those that I can no longer pick." Hi All I have good news and I have bad news. The good news is that today my husband has taken the first steps towards buying me a brand new PC with all the bells and whistles I require for my internet activities. WOOHOO! The bad news is _why_ Its his punishment. He spent some time today being helpful, attempting to clear some space on this PC - its old, worn out and overworked, a bit like me really :-) In his enthusiasm he managed to delete not only my address book but all my mail archives and bookmarks, irretrievably. He _will_ live... but only just. He's a very sorry and humble husband right now, believe me! So I need your help. I've lost everything, six months work, including the backups. (don't ask!) I've also lost all the mail that was waiting for me on my return from holidays yesterday and which was unanswered. If you have mailed me recently I would appreciate it if you could re-send. The enormity of what is lost still trickles through. I need all the information for the Skokie and Kampala Exhibitions (thanks Julio and Greg) The stuff you sent me on co-ordination too, Maria. The sacred tree exchange info is all gone, so if you have mailed me your bio already, please re-send. And anything else I can't remember right now. Actually I was very calm and managed to maintain a Zen like tranquility throughout. I haven't even shouted once. Its amazing really. The worst part is remembering all the times I've laughed at those stupid people who leave messages on lists saying, 'help! I've lost my address book', and I said to myself 'where's your hard copy, idiot?' Oh well! This has definitely not been my best year. I might go cook him a baked dinner now and cheer him up. Thanks in anticipation Josephine ------------------------------ End of Baren Digest V11 #1018 *****************************
