Oh my. What a treat!!!! I'm still in amazement. dan dew ------------------------------ From: "Maria Arango" Date: Fri, 19 May 2000 13:36:58 -0700 Subject: [Baren 9681] packages arriving! I'm so excited your packages are arriving! Good ol' postal service. All foreign packages went out by air, so expect them within a week or two depending on your coordinates with respect to the Ecuador and the alignment of the planetarious constellations of the third galaxy. In regards to the packaging and such minutia, I did the collation in two stages this time (for unmentionable reasons), thusly becoming a bit confusing on who whereforth belonged to which bubble-wrap etcetera. Also, if you utilized one of the wondreous express sources of delivery, your box was henceforth rendered unusable for reusable purposes due to the rules and regulatory regulations of the regulating bodies of delivery. So I switcha-roo and scrounged around my studio, the neighbor's garage, an unamed store with a cranky owner who owns a shot-gun full of salt, AND! came up with whatever packaging materials I could come up with, therewith. This also happened if you happened to order a case and had a case of memory lapse, whereasunto then your prints in the presentation case did not fit your puny little box for return purposes, or is it porpoises? I'm confused now... Anyhow, the point is don't be whining about your package, I dunwanna hearit. I did my very best, really, truly. Now if you did one of the following horrible things listed below, no need to apologize at all, don't feel picked on and generally "it's OK!" I am merely trying to make things easier for future coordinators. SO! for the future prevalence of sanity among those poor souls--I mean, those brave volunteers that volunteer their precious time and herculean efforts to coordinating an exchange, here are some packaging tips: >>Please allow enough room in your packages for the return of prints, many times in much thicker papers than your mawvelousss Japanese papers. >>If you order a presentation case, make sure your reusable box is big enough to fit the case. >>If you wrap your prints in tissue, then newsprint, then wrapping paper, then a plastic bag, you will be cursed at with words that would make Dave blush. Pack for easy repacking, please. >>Those of you who sent pre-addressed labels and pre-paid packages or stamps get bear hugs and sloppy kisses from one of my dogs (you may choose the dog but I warn you, Yuki is very messy). >>If you send little inserts that go with your prints, insert the little inserts yourself in between your prints so as to avoid driving your dedicated coordinator completely out of her wit. >>Interleaving papers are peachy as long as they are archival; newsprints and other blasphemous materials were removed and burned out back. >>If your print is too big for the presentation case it will crease and bend and other horrible self-torturous things when the case is closed. Please adhere to the dimensions given in the Exchange info pages. Here is the best and simplest packing according to my warped mind: EITHER a reclosable cardboard box, standard US package or other (some of you really got creative here and I applaud your custom boxes Arye, Jim, Wanda and Andy!) OR a standard padded envelope with an insert of 4-ply mattboard or even 1/8" fiberboard, wrap your prints in something and tape the something to the stiff board so that the corners are protected In all seriousness, I highly recommend that everyone coordinates an exchange in the future. It is the absolutely most positive experience to receive these prints day after day, open everyone's wonderful notes and beautiful little "extras" (I will let you find out what those are on your own), then be the first to lay out and admire 30 stacks of 30 prints that represent huge amounts of work and effort by 30 fellow printmakers. A sight to see, and an experience to savour. Nuff! Health to all, Maria ------------------------------ From: "Philip Smith" Date: Fri, 19 May 2000 23:40:14 -0700 Subject: [Baren 9682] James and printing James Mundie,....I read your technique on block cutting, again,...can = you go into a bit of detail as to how you actually print these delicate = images of yours? I just checked up the Java show, that David B put up. Wonderful works, I must admit...even those that are not in subject! Let's see what will happen in #6, maybe then we will all work on exactly the same subject, by some magical coinsidense... David, there seems to be a problem in your Java show at the point when it comes to the Svetecz print. There was indeed ... and because of the same mistake you just made Dimitris - spelling Margaret's name incorrectly! :-) It has now been repaired, and the slide show should work properly. > Let's see what will happen in #6, maybe then we will all work on exactly > the same subject, by some magical coinsidense... Haven't heard much from the participants about what they are planning for #6. The format is a bit 'funny' and the size is quite small. How are people approaching this one?
