I tried to write a limerick, but nothing is good enough for what I want to say. As I watch my materials gathering in a box, waiting for that workshop that will teach me about hanga, I realize how much influence Baren has had. I appreciate all this teaching we give to each other, and for you, Dave, for starting it all. Have a holiday worth remembering , all those who celebrate it. And for those who don't, may the star that guides your work shine for us all in the new millenium. They are extraordinary, really a precious thing! What a marvelous Christmas gift!! I know that I should have post this privately, but I want to tell everybody how beautiful your real prints are. There is no comparison with the web images. Thank you Dave. Gayle wrote: > As I watch my materials gathering in a box, waiting for that workshop ... May I make a small suggestion here Gayle? The value you will get out of that coming workshop will be in direct proportion to how much experience and knowledge you bring to it. Someone who knows 'nothing' about woodblock printmaking would be lifted up to a certain level by the workshop. Someone who had more practical experience already, no matter at what uncertain level, would be 'lifted' much higher. I would respectfully suggest that you get as much experience with those materials and tools as you possibly can before June. If you do, you will get much much more out of what happens there. You will learn more, because you will understand more of what you will hear and see. *** Jeanne wrote: > Usually you have your name at the top of the Exchange list. > Does this mean that you are not going to participate in this exchange. The way that the exchanges are going, it is apparent that there are going to be at least three or four of them every year from now on. As much as I like and enjoy being part of [Baren], I cannot let it hurt my regular work ... something that has indeed happened this year. It is now late December, and I have finished only 9 of the ten prints planned for the current Surimono Album. I don't much like people who are constantly telling us how 'incredibly busy I am', but Jeanne, there are indeed limits to what I can accomplish. I've coming off the most incredible year I've ever had; I don't dare tell you how many prints I've sent out of here ... and good prints, prints that make me feel pretty proud to have made them. But I'm not Superman, and am trying belatedly to learn when to be able to say 'no'. > I know that we always look forward to seeing your work and hope > you will not disappoint us. Thank you very much for this, but I don't think I'll be signing-up for Exchange #5. Of course I'll write the intro, will order the cases, and will host the images on the web site, all just as usual. Please don't make a big deal out of this - [Baren] is [Baren], not 'David + the rest'. (But thanks for asking!) Dave P.S. I'm almost finished the printing on my year-end greeting card, and will be sending it out in the middle of the coming week. Regular contributors to [Baren] who haven't been getting my newsletter, etc., and who would like to be on my little mailing list, please drop me a line (off-list) with your address, and I'll send you one. It's not a dragon I'm afraid ... a little bit more gentle flying creature ... ------------------------------ End of Baren Digest V9 #832 ***************************
