If you want to see a photo tour of the Skokie Library...site of the Baren spring exhibit....go to my new page at: http://www.skokienet.org/bandits/jcrstuff/library.html Enjoy the tour...... HAPPY HOLIDAYS To Everyone!!!!! The label on the jar is a bit vague after that--"Add water." Thanks very much. Kat ------------------------------ From: "Philip Smith" Date: Thu, 23 Dec 1999 12:29:35 -0800 Subject: [Baren 7251] Hello Kat,....I have some of this stuff somewhere in the house I haven't used and 'was rather curious of the proportions too,...the people at Daniel Smith told me for sizing: 10 tablespoons to one gal. of water stir and let set for an hour and double the amount of power if you want to use it as glue,...a little math and you can get the amount you need. So I guess you'd need 2 and a half table spoons for a quart and 1 and a quarter table spoons for a pint...how close am I? 'Hope this helps. Does this mean that you are not going to participate in this exchange. I know that we always look forward to seeing your work and hope you will not disappoint us. Just because you are working 20 hours a day does not mean that you cannot squeeze in an extra print or two or 30!!!!!! Julio Great library space. Just like a gallery. Merry Christmas to all of you. Well, here we are at Xmas Eve again (at least over on _this_ side of the International Date Line!). A couple of years ago, back when [Baren] was only a half-dozen people, I sent out a special little Xmas message to the members. Now, with nearly 160 people on board, I guess it might be time to send it again, so I have created a special new audio/visual edition of the message. Head over to the woodblock.com front page, and you will see a link to it. (Note to the original half-dozen ... even though you've seen the message before, go take a look - now you can _hear_ it!) Happy holidays, everybody! Keep stirring until mixed and thick. Don't stop stirring until thick! For one cup same procedure - use 1 cup water - 1tsp methyl cellulose and 1/4 tsp baking soda. No need to refrigerate. It is great - Bea ------------------------------ From: Aqua4tis@aol.com Date: Thu, 23 Dec 1999 18:39:11 EST Subject: [Baren 7256] Re: Xmas Message ... dave just wanted to tell you how much ienjoyed hearing your message and how delighted i am with baren this is a wonderful group and thank you so much for starting it merry christmas dave and everyone!!!!!!!!!!! georga ------------------------------ From: Graham Scholes Date: Thu, 23 Dec 1999 15:42:46 -0800 Subject: [Baren 7257] Re: Xmas Message ... >I have created a special new audio/visual edition of the message. Wonderful David. Thank you very much. The sound and reading was quiet lovely. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas Graham The grandchildren will be here any minute.... Hugs are always the order of the moment. ------------------------------ From: Julio.Rodriguez@walgreens.com Date: Thu, 23 Dec 1999 18:16:04 -0600 Subject: [Baren 7258] Printing Press Dave....loved the Xmas message, thank you so very much. For those that followed my saga with the used Vandercook presses....and all my troubles getting the "little" guys home, I have added a photo of the big Vandercook Model 02 proof press to my "Printmaking" page. Just go to my home page and select "Printmaking" and you will see a link to the photos of the presses and my temporary print workshop. If you look carefully you can see some metal furniture all around & about plus at the bottom of the cabinet one of the blocks used to print exchange #3 on this very same press. http://www.skokienet.org/bandits/micasa.html Happy Holidays......Julio ------------------------------ From: "John Ryrie" Date: Fri, 24 Dec 1999 19:08:34 +1100 Subject: [Baren 7259] Re: Printing Press Julio I just looked at your Vanercook very nice a bit older than mine. Do you have grippes that grip the paper on the cylinder?, if so they should be at the top when the cylinder is in this position. The platform that you have the inks on is for your paper, you attach each sheet to the cylinder, by means of a foot peddle. Then wen it reaches the other end it is automatically released. To get the cylinder in the right position is hard work you need to unscrew the stoppers at the end of the press and fined the position that will get the thing in place by trial and era. I had to do this my self, by my self which is not a good idea the cylinder is heavy and takes at least two people to hold it. I hope this makes sense there is a photo of a press the same as mine in The Thames and Hudson manual of Woodcut Printing by Walter Chamberlain, which shows the position of the grippes. If you need more instructions I can try and be a bit less unclear. Dave thank you for the Xmas message I really enjoyed it. Hear in Melbourne the temperature is about 38 and there are streets full of people dressed up as Santa collapsing with heat exertion all over the place. so it's a normal Christmas. ------------------------------ End of Baren Digest V9 #831 ***************************
