[Baren]: The mailing list / discussion forum for woodblock printmaking. I use some papers which are partly sulphite for proofing, but I prefer 100% kozo once I get to editioning. Barbara, I too went from monoprinting to woodblock, it's like learning a different language. I did get hooked on wood though!!! Also, saw some of your monoprints on the monoprints website - they look great - best wishes, Sarah ------------------------------ From: Cucamongie@aol.com Date: Sun, 5 Dec 1999 12:27:25 EST Subject: [Baren 7025] dragon question Hi all, for those who are doing both dragon exchanges (Pete's and the other one mentioned recently) how are you signing your prints? I ask this because the "other" dragon exchange specifies "no limited edition." I know, here we go w/the editioning questions again, but just wanted to find out how others are handling this. Thanks Sarah ------------------------------ From: Wanda Date: Sun, 05 Dec 1999 10:45:33 -0800 Subject: [Baren 7026] Re: Mission impossible Right! We all laughed about it later, because one by one and tool by tool out of those "sets" we wound up with almost the same tools that were in the set. And I, for one, haven't regretted buying any of them. Folks, these tools are *the* best. They will cut anything you put in front of them, and you have to be careful when talking with your hands - don't have one of these in your hand. You risk life & limb! Don't ask me how I know that. Hmmm... Dave + computer + hanshita? Works good, huh Dave? :-) Barbara: Never admit to *old age* or *stupidity* - never never never! :-) Wanda ------------------------------ From: Bella1yopp@aol.com Date: Sun, 5 Dec 1999 23:07:50 EST Subject: [Baren 7027] Re: Mission impossible > Does anyone have experience with Simple Green for cleaning? Sure, it was a staple in the ol' UA printshop. However, I found it worked best when grouped with something else. Such as when using oil based inks, clean glass with paint thinner and then simple green (when cleaning a real mess). When the mess was light, simple green by itself. Also, simple green combined with Orange Goop does wonders on ink spots on clothes (still fresh ink spots). - -Martha Stewart... I mean... All different kinds. I pull out the ol' books and just look and learn. Then I try. I have to do at least one sketch on paper and then I either transfer it to the board or just start drawing on the board. But I surround myself with woodblock prints and photos or/& drawings. - -Amanda ------------------------------ From: Josephine Severn Date: Mon, 06 Dec 1999 04:24:25 +1100 Subject: [Baren 7029] Dragons Hurrah! First new Dragon is in and on the page. Check it out at http://www.acay.com.au/~severn/dragon.htm Thought it was going to be intaglio? The soft greys in the print didn't scan too well and I was reluctant to tweak it in photoshop, the computer police might get me, right Graham? Is this a Blues Brother or a Men in Black? Or one of those guys from the Matrix which we watched on the weekend? Great film. The exchange list is up to 26. Now I have to make and send out seven more cards. There's some typos in John's address, its Carlton, not Caarlton, and Australia, not Austraila. Thought I'd mention it because I found it interesting trying to make sense of some of the overseas addresses myself as I am accustomed to Aus postal conventions. Some of those post codes looked like phone numbers to me. So if yours arrive with the phone number as part of the address, dont blame me. (wot no 90210?) Have just found out that the HTML editor in Communicator does internal page linking so am revamping the site with links back to the top of the page, at last. Couldnt figure how to do that in Front page, thought Id mention it in case anyone else has same problem. Have been making paper for last couple of days, need more for the dragons and am working on a new project and some new methods, more later. I agree with everything that John said re paper and purchasing. It is difficult to get good paper outside of a few specialist suppliers in the cities here. We learn to make do. I am about to investigate where I can get a PH pen here so I can test the paper myself. I tend to close my eyes and hope for the best. If it looks good and prints well, it'll have to do. John do you buy from Melbourne etching supplies? Do they have a retail shop near you? I know Oxford art supplies sells Jap papers cos I have bought some off him. If anybody else notices anything weird with their info, let me know so I can correct it. Also- somewhere when I was updating thje Dragon list, my server ate one of the updates. The whole thing has been a bit twitchy lately, and been down quit a bit over the last few days. This should be temporary, but if somehow anyone's name gets lost in the shuffle, please sent it to me again so I can re-enter it. It's nothing personal, really.... - --Pete ------------------------------ From: "John Ryrie" Date: Mon, 6 Dec 1999 16:24:07 +1100 Subject: [Baren 7032] Re: dragon question Sarah I'm singing and not editioning I printed enough for the address on the page but may have to print some more if more Barrens & Baronesses join so I've just been singing my name. Not much mail today, have people taken the news that the site is down to mean that the list was down? Or are you just working?
