Very clear, but pausing on the photos did not produce text. I love this idea of the daubers and I'm going to make some according to Maria's instructions (leather glove fingers stuffed and stuck with a stick then tied). I'm so tired of the problems I have with those darn rollers. Welcome Jandi. Neat name, too. I love it's color more than anything, and that you can see through it so well when printing. The drawback is that they are often not available except by mail order unless you are lucky and live in a city with a supplier. My Western all time favorites are Arches 88, available everywhere, and Magnani Pescia, not available anywhere. Also try BFK light weight, Stonehenge, Arches Text Wove, and the Arches Cover family in colors (tan, black, cream) but the white isn't that good for printmaking. I have also printed with good results on drawing paper right out of a good quality AND acid free drawing pad. Dampen the Western papers or you will get a sore wrist and get poor impressions. The paper should feel soft and pliable but not wet when it is ready. Happy printing! First off you have to order by the batch lot. 300 sheets for me and then wait 3 to 4 months to get the stuff. Mail order is easy.... especially if you know a guy who can supply. And supply it at about a 20% mark up from landed cost to cover the hassel and cost of money. I offered this this in July and had very few takers. ?????????????? I presently have about $7000.00 tied up in my studio with another 300 sheet on route..... Stores mark it up 100 %...... The Japanese Paper Company in Toronto. http://www.interlog.com/~washi/ apparently no longer carries it. As far as my press choice, I did get a few testimonials that the dick blick was a good choice before I went for it. At this point, just having ANY press will be wonderful! I'm confident I made a good choice. Too late to change now, anyway! In case anyone is wondering, I am of the female variety of human! I would like to get in on the Dragon exchange - I saw the page with the listing of participants, but how do I get on that list? I would just also like to mention that this is incredible! It's so hard to find anyone who even knows what printmaking is and here is a whole crowd of people talking about my kinda stuff! It's great to know you all and I hope I will eventually have something to add to the conversation. I'll probably be getting more info than giving for a long time! So, thanks in advance! ------------------------------ From: "Jeanne Norman Chase" Date: Wed, 1 Dec 1999 12:08:51 -0500 Subject: [Baren 6934] Re: Paper Amanda Wandas advice was good, however if your local art supply store does not have exotic Japanese papers, they usually have lightweight Rives paper. It has always worked for me. Jeanne N. ------------------------------ From: Julio.Rodriguez@walgreens.com Date: Wed, 1 Dec 1999 12:13:15 -0600 Subject: [Baren 6935] Hear Ye ! Hear Ye! Join the merry band of dragon slayers.... Hi Jandi, welcome aboard, seems to me like you are already contributing. To get into the dragon exchange (I think we have 18 entries at last count) just sent Pete a private email with your info to : Pedrobot@AOL.com Then check later to confirm that he added you to his special web page at: http://www.geocities.com/area51/5426/baren.html By the way I think this might be the last dragon roundup of the millennium.... Georga, This Jose paper is the cheapest alternative to gold leaf if you lay down some tacky glue and then press the Jose gold side down it sticks like gold leaf. Its often used to decorate furniture and for theatre sets wen a gold leaf affects is needed it also comes in silver. I think a lino print is perfectly in order this not being an official baren exchange and I was wondering doe anyone have an exertion to me doing an intaglio print . In Australia Dragons are not an exeption we have living dragons hear,as do New Zealand and the Galapagos Islands. I think the doses of Goapigus Islands baren members must be rubbings there hands, having this opportunity. John ------------------------------ End of Baren Digest V9 #805 ***************************
