What fun. Bea ------------------------------ From: kim and paul Date: Tue, 10 Aug 1999 09:52:01 +0000 Subject: [Baren 5221] Re: Baren Digest V8 #655 Just received my Exchange #2 packet. "wow". I feel lucky to have found this group and even more lucky to have participated in an exchange with a few of the members. Will have more comments later, when Dave has the images online. Bea, thanks for the dampening tip. The last thing I would have done would be to put the paper in the freezer (!). Sorry, Dave. I was certain you had explained this thoroughly in the past. Sometimes I get overwhelmed with the vast amount of info on the woodblock website and I need _direction_. :) Thanks for explaining "kento", "kagi" and "hikitsuki" again, too. Hanga is like another world to me sometimes. I was looking for a web site but couldn't find one. Can you elaborate or send a url of their site. Do we get to see an image? The sign-up sheet for Exchange #4 is already up and running at: http://woodblock.com/forum/exchange_sign-up.html But please note - the general policy on these exchanges is that members who _weren't_ in the immediately previous exchange get first crack at sign-up. So the period from August 10 to August 24 is 'reserved' for those people. General sign-up starts on the 24th. Don't panic though, thinking that you will not have a place. Almost certainly, it will not be anywhere near 'filled up' during the advance period, and there will be lots of room for all who wish to participate. (I've already received a couple of registrations from #3 participants, and will simply 'hold' those here until the 24th, and then put them on the list.) I was so excited to see him among so many beautiful prints that I could barely get out the words to introduce myself. Matt was in a demonstration tent, sitting at his very Japanese printing table, printing a small landscape. His hanga were soft and gentle, displayed in beautifully handcrafted wooden frames. My husband and I couldn't believe that his Japanese methods are self-taught---there's hope for us all! I could have stayed and talked for days, but his fans and my family were getting restless so we made arrangements to meet again and parted. Thank you, Dave, for bringing us all together!
