Then go back and click onto "Museum" and you will find out about the Maxfield Parrish exhibit. Judy I can assure everyone that it was just as pleasant for me to meet Gayle as it was apparently pleasant for her to meet me! Heck, I even got a big ol' jug of maple syrup out of it. What more could anyone ask? :-D Judy, the show Gayle referred to visiting after the Maxfield Parrish show was the 1st Alumni Exhibition now up in the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts' 1301 Cherry Street gallery. This show features one of my drawings from "Prodigies", which you can see if you get to Philly before 31 July. However, if you are bound and determined to see something of mine "in the flesh", there are a couple of more opportunities coming up in the Philadelphia area. You just missed being able to take a peek at one of my woodcuts in the Hunterdon Museum of Art's 43rd Annual in Clinton NJ (so did I, as the show coincided with our trip to Eire), but you could still catch two woodcuts in "Art of the State" at the State Museum in Harrisburg through 12 September 1999, another of the circus freak drawings in "Black and White" at Bethlehem PA's Banana Factory through 4 September 1999, and the big one: Challenge #2 at the Fleisher Art Memorial, 8 January to 6 February 2000. I hope to feature at least twenty of the "Prodigies" drawings in this show -- the first time I have been able to exhibit more than four at a time. Ruth Leaf and I met at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and saw the Eighteenth Century Japanese Print exhibit - it is lovely and will be there until August 10 - it follows the history of print making from very little color to full color with some absolutely wonderful and amazing prints. The only disappointment was that they don't have a catalog. Then went to Little Tokio ate delicious chirashi, then bought some Japanese print paper and sumi ink. In August, my husband, Jack and I are going to Horizons in MA where April Volmer will be teaching the class and on the way plan to stop and see Matt Brown at the Sunapee Arts and Craft fair in NH where he will be demonstrating and selling works. It reminds me of Dave's opening page. "Chromoxylographers of the world - Unite!" Won't be able to make the Manhattan Graphics show in October because Bea Nunee will become Bea Twonunee by then but I know it will be an exciting show. ------------------------------ From: SylTaylor@aol.com Date: Wed, 28 Jul 1999 07:50:33 EDT Subject: [Baren 5088] Re: final countdown... Alas, back to the tasks at hand. I'm finishing my giant print-quilt which I hope and pray will be done by the time I leave here for my next MFA residency early Aug. I've printed black ink on white linen. All different shapes, sizes, and images, but all subject matter pertaining to home birth. Specifically, home birth as it was in the early 70's. (I think I mentioned before that I am a midwife, but if not, well, I am.) While in the states I hope to connect with some woodblock printmaking resources. (workshops, people, shows etc) I'd sure like to try my hand at hanga in the next few months.
