Thanks very much. Those are very interesting. "Der Rhein" seems very much to be 'traditional" German expressionist woodblock, if there is such a thing. The paintings I was referring to are like these: http://metalab.unc.edu/wm/paint/auth/kiefer/ , quite different from his woodblocks, perhaps it's a matter of the medium.
