I just checked both on Dave's member's page. Ruth's are accessible and amusing, and Michael's more mysterious. I love them both, somehow I feel the need to see Michael's in person to understand them better. Ruth's speak more clearly of color and shape, but it is hard to make out the subtle textures of Michael's. Someone mentioned Anselem Kiefer's work in relation to M's, useful to see connections. I also loved Julio's thoughts about the micro-cosmos, that was my first impression, too. That other world of really small stuff...sort of strange but with a recognizable organic shape. Who sent the Shambala/Ken Wilbur page? My images (like my pal Picasso) are always based on recognizable stuff, but I am fascinated by the new physics, chaos theory, strange attractors...the wierd world of California physics. Anybody else follow this stuff? I'd like to be added to the list for Michael's CD, still not quite the real thing, but we make do. Thank you. I wish I had continued my Japanese language studies so that I might understand all that was said, but there was a lot to visually enjoy. Very nice close-up footage of carving, and I was looking for that slightly bent tip on Mr Ito's knife, Dave, but missed it. Also enjoyed the visits to the block planer, the paper maker, the pigment shop, and the association meeting. I was expecting the association table to be covered with beer glasses, Dave, but the fellows must have been on good behavior while the cameras were rolling. (Was Numabe-san among the group?) Thanks again, I'll enjoy this many times, I'm sure. You can quite easily see it on the newest page in the Encyclopedia! http://woodblock.com/encyclopedia/updates.html > I was expecting the association table to be covered > with beer glasses ... Actually, there was plenty of beer there that evening (all supplied by the TV people). I don't remember exactly, but maybe they brought it out only a bit later ... > Was Numabe-san among the group? Yes. Counting from my left, he's the third guy ... Dave ------------------------------ End of Baren Digest V7 #540 ***************************
