I have been creating reduction prints in oil for years and it is my experience that the colors do not blend well enough to mix a clear color on the print. Instead the colors are fairly opaque. So print your lightest color first. Then print the next color you want, then the darkest. Yellow first, a light green, then the blue. The blending will be minimal. For more complex prints with 6 or more colors, I use multiple blocks, one for each family of colors and do reduction on all of them. I really love it. Where did you get your idea? I have thought about doing a self portrait, have you done one? Thanks again for your gift. With the CAN$ at a 67% discount to the US$- it's a real value. Are the supplies thru Noboru Sawai? Hmmm... If so, is he able to offer other items if we are interested? Thanks! - -John ------------------------------ From: Sunnffunn@aol.com Date: Thu, 15 Apr 1999 22:31:27 EDT Subject: [Baren 4030] Re: reduction prints wonderful acvice on the reduction method thanks ------------------------------ From: April Vollmer/John Yamaguchi Date: Fri, 16 Apr 1999 00:22:22 -0400 Subject: [Baren 4031] hug rug? Bea, they say knee replacements are miraculous, hope you heal quick and make it to the class newly flexible! Graham is much more organized than I am, but my list of supplies is similar. He has the advantage of working at his home studio, I will have to carry stuff up with me. There is lots of miscellaneous stuff you need, like blotters and garbage bags, pencils and carbon paper, it is easy to forget something. Cutting tools, wood and paper are the essentials. I want to know where the tools come from, McClain's is my only source for Japanese tools. I bet a hug rug is a rubber mat that helps keep the block from shifting while you cut? Dave is cutting away, I really must be, too! Oh Jean, I was interested to hear you are planning in Photoshop. I've been working from black and white images manipulated in Photoshop, not color separations. You print out each channel? Bea I think said she was going to your class sometime this summer. With a knee replacement!!!! Humm , I had a D&C on my knee and it was 6 months before I could get around with any sort of comfort...... Maybe Bea is bionic. >He has the advantage of working at his home studio, I will have to carry >stuff up with me. I can relate to that.....Marnie and I travelled across Canada doing lectures and workshops for 5 years each summer with a truck and towing a 24 foot suitcase. Been there Done that and have lots of T-shirts. >There is lots of miscellaneous stuff you need, >like blotters and garbage bags, pencils and carbon paper, >it is easy to forget something. You can always find that you missed something when putting a list together. I notice I indicated Garbage Bags are available for purchase. You cheap b......r Scholes I will have to go over it carefully - again - and check. >I want to know where the tools come from, Noboru Sawai has personal contacts in Japan and imports everything. >I bet a hug rug is a rubber mat that helps keep the block >from shifting while you cut? What a good idea!!!!! Hey Marnie here is another use for rug hug!!!! >Oh Jean, I was interested to hear you are planning in Photoshop >I've been working from black and white images manipulated in Photoshop, >not color separations. April, I always carry a load for designing (I draw directly on the wood) and cutting with me - in a zip lock bag - 3 sizes of marking pens, pencils, eraser, sharpening stone and a small bottle of water for it as well as a sketch book and a plastic cloth to catch the wood - have never gone on a trip anywhere without woodcut tools and wood - but printing that's another story! I'm sure the rug hug is what we use here in shaky California for earthquake preparedness as well as in our motor home to keep things from slipping. In the motor home I bring my bench hook also. My small tools are from McClains and I have an old Japanese set that is pretty good for the larger tools. Will you (no rush) send a list of things to bring? I'm planning for knees to get better but never know. Bea ------------------------------ End of Baren Digest V7 #529 ***************************
