Thanks for clarifying it even further. Jeanne An enjoyable quote; "I can't expect even my own art to provide all the answers-only to hope it keeps asking the right questions." Graham, 1. The above is wickedly funny and I wish to quote you when I exhibit my current print suite "Suburban Nights." 2. Your new print, "Chrome Island," has some spendid design qualities. I like the way you have woven "S" curves throughout the whole piece, both below the horizon and above in the flamboyant sky. The dialogue between complementary lavender and yellow areas is also quite satisfying. -- Don ------------------------------ From: "Jeanne N. Your woodcuts have the stark feeling of Kathe Kollawitz. Quite impressive. i did not see any information on you or your philosophy which would interest me greatly. Are you from Indonesia? Jacarta? I have a very dear friend in Jacarta. I hope, if you are there that all is well with you and yours ! Welcome to the Baren. I know you will find it informative and will find many friends here. I like the expressionistic style of Herry Dim's woodcuts; they disturb in the way good art can. Welcome to Baren, Herry Dim. I enjoyed reading about you and your work. Just something I pick up here there and around. Most of the quips come from some where. I lay claim to only about 3 or 4. >2. Your new print, "Chrome Island," has some spendid design qualities. It was planned, and in the rough stage I recall saying to myself..."your milking it Scholes ...be careful...it could be a little risky". Then an inner self said ... art without risk is.... well, 'just fluff'. ohhhh....heavy stuff for 7.30 am Thanks for you feedback Cheers Graham ------------------------------ From: Graham Scholes Date: Fri, 9 Apr 1999 08:57:29 -0800 Subject: [Baren 3934] Re: introduce Herry Dim wrote: please check at http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/Gallery/9275/work4.html Hi Herry, It interesting how there is a lot of rhythm in your series "gonjangganjingnegeriku 2" as compared to the woodblocks. The series is my preference. The woodblocks are powerful. The installation work is quite wonderful. Great statements there.. I notice that the images at : http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/Gallery/9275/work4.html are broken. I am interested in know the reason for the extra window that keeps popping up. "Some word from one of our sponsors" ...... Do they pay for this? Personally I find it very annoying. My first response is that this is Junk mail and degrades your site. My two Canadian cents worth. An exchange sign-up from Andrea was in my mailbox when I got up this morning ... so that's 30, and [Baren Exchange 2] is now off and running! John Amoss long ago graciously volunteered to be the coordinator for this exchange, and his central location (compared to Tokyo and Kampala, anyway!) should mean that shipping costs should be minimized for most people. Here is the list of participants: John Amoss Ray Hudson Haydee Landing Julio Rodriguez Jeanne Norman Chase Gregory Robison Bea Gold Mary Krieger Greg Valentine Graham Scholes Kelsey Smith Maria Hanley Jacob Roquet Chris Bremmer Wanda Robertson Cyndy Wilson Jean Eger Gayle Wohlken James Mundie Kim Kaschimer-Medina Maria Arango Ruth Leaf Michelle Morrell Sarah Hauser Rob Noland Elizabeth Atwood Brad A Schwartz Andrea Rich David Mohallatee David Bull John will get in touch with you soon, to confirm details of paper size, etc. so that you can get started. But the three-month clock has already started ticking, with the deadline set at July 10th. Note to general membership: most of the organization discussion for the exchange will take place among those 30 people directly, but John will make occasional reports to the main list, to keep you in touch with what is going on ... And of course, the sign-up sheet for [Baren Exchange 3] is ready and waiting, in the same place: http://woodblock.com/forum/exchange_sign-up.html Dave ------------------------------ From: Jean Eger Date: Fri, 09 Apr 1999 17:23:07 -0700 Subject: [Baren 3938] Re: Baren Digest V7 #520 Congratulations on your newest image, Graham.
