I have some thoughts to share on the latter, but first, I wonder if some on the list could help me with the following: I have been asked to help form an association of printmakers in Uganda and I'm looking for ideas from existing societies on how such a group should be organized. Issues such as admission of members, nature of shows sponsored by the society, etc. I can invent it all from scratch (I'm used to setting up companies, writing by-laws, etc), but there is surely some wisdom out there that I can tap... There are very few printmakers in this country. The best one (who has exhibited and won awards in Japan and Europe) dropped by my studio yesterday and raised this question about starting an organization. His task is to round up good candidates (we figure that there are about half a dozen who are active), and my task is to host the organizational meeting and propose the rules. I'm sure that the experience of watercolor societies and other such groups would be pertinent as well. With such a small group, I know that most of what happens will be informal. However, the existence of a corporate body of some kind could be helpful for many reasons. Any thoughts? I'm sorry to say I don't remember the exact findings, but an English research team concluded that flash bulbs and scanners posed no discernable harm to paper or pigments over prolonged and repeated exposure. Generally, I think the illumination from a flash is so brief that any harm it might cause is negligible. *** Someone asked (I accidentally erased that part of the digest so, I don't remember exactly who it was... Wanda, maybe?) about the woman in the print of mine to be seen in the "Window of Opportunity" section at http://www.fleisher.org The model is a friend of mine (who has since moved to San Francisco) that I have used many times in my images over the past couple of years. You can see more of her on page two of my Encyclopedia entry (http://www.woodblock.com/encyclopedia/015_01/015_01_frame.html). I enjoy working with her face because it has a sort of Raphael or Botticelli quality about it. Mise le meas, James Mundie, Philadelphia USA ------------------------------ From: "Jeanne N. James When I click on the url that you sent re; the model you usually work from , I just get "Not Found". but I shall persevere and go right to the Encl. Just wanted to let you know in case others have the same problem. Bet you miss your model! I had a great model for 10 Years and could depend on her, when she moved it took me awhile to find another. It would be easier if we would just do still lifes or flowers or landscapes. They are always available! Jeanne ------------------------------ End of Baren Digest V7 #519 ***************************
