Very definitely, Dave. I think some of us don't want to face what would have to be done (I mean me, of course) because it all seems so businesslike and not creative. Maybe you can show people like me there's nothing to scoff at? My favorite thing is sitting on a summer day on my backporch, carving away. I like printing the image. After that, I don't seem to care much. * * * * > Jim is simply including the address of his Encyclopedia page with a lot > of the mail he sends out to people. What a great idea. I had been doing it the hard way, sending them to woodblock.com and all the pages leading up to mine. Sometimes I wonder about myself. )8-D * * * * Dave, your one-point lesson is just what I needed! Thanks for telling us how to make sharpening stones for curved chisels. It will work for even the tiniest gouges? How about v-cutters? Isn't that the way most people discover art? The promise of "nudie pics" has drawn more than one young boy to the fine arts! >Over these next five months, would it be of any interest to [Baren] >members if I described some of these preparations? Getting people to look at your work (and buy it!) is nine tenths of the battle. Making the prints is usually the easiest part-- educating and convincing your public takes much longer. As you said: >If nobody _sees_ our work, what is the point of doing it? I've just uploaded a .jpg copy of the flyer that I made the other day, and which I will be sending out next week. It's at: http://www.woodblock.com/forum/archives/vol04/extras/ad01.jpg (again, to avoid confusion - that's 'vol' as in 'volume', and 'oh one dot jpg') It's reduced from the original A4 size, so the lettering looks a bit distorted, but anyway you get the idea ... *** Gayle wrote: >Thanks for telling >us how to make sharpening stones for curved chisels. It will work for >even the tiniest gouges? How about v-cutters? Because the outside faces of V-cutters are flat, you don't really need a grooved stone to sharpen them; a normal flat stone will do. But you _do_ need a special slipstone for the interior V-shape. I'll cover those in part two of that article, in a couple of weeks ... *** Hideshi wrote: >I uploaded new pages to my website. >You can see the process of making a new print. This is a very interesting idea - to document on the web the birth of a new work, from first conception, right up to finished print. Hideshi, at first we thought that you were going to keep all your 'secrets', but now we see that you are willing to show us everything! Right now, I don't understand what you are trying to do with this print, but I'm sure that as time goes by, it will become clearer ... I'm looking forward to following the progress of this print ...
