Ball" Date: Thu, 16 Jul 1998 12:30:59 -0600 Subject: [Baren 1178] ink/pigments Bareners: Continued thanks for the on-going pigment/crappy ink discussion. My intention was to get two example prints, side by side, in similar color showing Speedball and ricepaste and watercolor and ricepaste. As Jim states: >I assumed when I recommended water-based (hanga-type) pigment to Roger >that he would be using it in the usual way-- with brushes and paste. >Whether that was Roger's intention I can't say! I admit to stubborness and I have many misconceptions...but I could tell right off I wasn't going to get the watercolor/ricepaste rolled out evenly. My problems so far: Learning how to get the paste the right consistency, getting the ink/paste mixture right, (%^&@#$!$) moistening the ($@^&*^$@!!) paper! I can't get the damn pigment mix to stick! It dries out too fast! Uneven brush tecqnique, not wanting to use the good paper to screw up on, etc... It's all new to me. Question: isn't Liquitex an acrylic??? I'll have to say that the Green Drop stuff interests me a bunch. I'm interested in others perceptions about its rollability, stiffness and transparency. I'd be a lousy candidate to try it though, having never tried oil-based. Tube watercolor could get awful expensive awfully fast. I see why dry pigments are preferred. You're gonna mix 'em anyway, right? I'll post any results I get in the next couple weeks. I also need to redesign my crappy webpage... Anyway, thanks again to all. - -Roger ------------------------------ From: Hideshi Yoshida Date: Fri, 17 Jul 1998 21:56:43 +0900 Subject: [Baren 1179] Art Contest Information To Baren, An art contest will be done in Canada. As you say a computer is very helpful and convenient. I don't think it's heresy. If it is necessary for you, you should use it. However we have to treat a computer as just an assistant.
