They said they are out of catalogs right now, but I think I'll write and inquire about the knife. Also I want to check out McClain's knife (the one April mentioned). I'm sorry I'm giving everybody the impression I'm young and impatient. Actually I'm oldish and time is running out. Usually I mess things up at the beginning of what I do because of hysterical glee and wild expectation. But I usually settle down some. Let's hope for that. I like Dave's description of his youthful enthusiasm: > when I > was 'somewhat' younger I was an impatient and impulsive person. I was > so impatient that I was too stupid even to stop and take the time to > sharpen my knife when it was dull. "Just keep going - it'll cut 'OK' All the preparation seems overwhelming and I do want to give the Hanga method a try. I keep rereading what I must do or buy and realize I can't start today. Last night I was ready to dampen some Hosho paper a friend had brought (every Thursday is Art Day here and we put all the leaves in the kitchen table (the kitchen table again, Matt) and get out the big lights and work all day on our "stuff"--in summer we are on the back porch with it while Jim (my husband) gardens and brings wonderful tomatoes for our lunch.) Anyway I was checking Dave's information and, WHOA, now I have to SIZE the paper. I don't have sizing. So, people I have to put enthusiasm on hold some more. But the mind is made up here to give it a try when all's in order. I appreciate all your advice. I think you people are gifted teachers and clear. Since I am known somewhat in some circles for my brevity, I will keep maintain the status quo. Think of preperation time as part of the creative process. Getting paper or blocks ready gets your mind in tune with the task at hand. All important stuff to create a print. ....Without it one will not enjoy the process.....as it is the process. ... Since you are not young, thus is your temperment, maybe the preparitory ritual will prevent you from becoming a woodblock print artist. Lots of luck with your quest.
