[Baren]: The mailing list / discussion forum for woodblock printmaking. Baren Digest Tuesday, 10 March 1998 Volume 02 : Number 091 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: April Vollmer & John Yamaguchi Date: Mon, 9 Mar 1998 11:11:28 -0400 Subject: [Baren 467] Introduction of a new printmaker Hello all! I am enjoying receiving all your discussions on wood storage and technical issues. I was especially interested in the information on Chinese printing. I have been teaching a few hanga workshops, and I always say the Japanese technique was refined from Chinese models, without having a clear idea what those Chinese models might be! I am an artist who began learning hanga four or five years ago from Bill Paden here in New York. He learned in Kyoto in the sixties, and has been giving private lessons. There are not many people who use the technique here, so it is very helpful to listen in on your e-mail discussions. Do any of you know anything about the Kyoto International Woodprint Association and Richard Steiner? He is sponsoring a woodcut exhibition in Kyoto in May. Any info? Please check my web page if you are interested in seeing what my prints look like. I have done a lot of etching, painting, drawing as well, but am now focussed on hanga.
