[Baren]: The mailing list / discussion forum for woodblock printmaking. Graham, I don't have a web page at this time. I'm still trying to master e-mail right now. A future web page is a possibility. Dave, yes I read that stuff. I am very rusty and have a lot to relearn. Actually, there is probably going to be a textbook in those notes if this group keeps going long enough. Did Hodaka accept people into his studio? No, we were a fluke. One of the other art teachers managed an introduction and after MANY visits and MUCH green tea, we got in on a regular basis. I never met Toshi. Julio, Yoshida-san was working on Landscape with a House-A when I was there. (It's on the cover of the Petit/Arboleda book.) The photo plate was a metal plate, etched and printed in relief and the other blocks were wood and printed the traditional way. The printer came to work on that series while we were there. The images on the metal plate were gathered from magazines, newspapers, etc. and then placed in a collage arrangement. It was sent out to a platemaker who produced the plate. Yoshida-san cut his own wood blocks using Shina plywood. Enough for now, I will take on the question of to frame or not to frame another time. Wake up class. None of my close friends were killed but a few had their homes destroyed and I am doing what I can to help them. Also working with the Red Cross where I can but giving blood and money about all I can really do. They have all the volunteers they need right now and they have asked others to stay away. 38 dead so far and three still missing so this was the worse in Central Florida history. I appreciate your post. Ray Esposito ------------------------------ End of Baren Digest V2 #78 **************************
