[Baren]: The mailing list / discussion forum for woodblock printmaking. Baren Digest Thursday, 8 January 1998 Volume 02 : Number 032 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: David Bull Date: Thu, 08 Jan 1998 18:55:36 +0900 Subject: [Baren 136] New member ... (sort of) A few weeks back, I sent a package of printed-out [Baren] digests to David Stones, a woodblock printmaker living out in the country here in Japan, who as yet has no access to the 'net or e-mail. I thought he might like to know what sort of ideas were being tossed around ... I got a letter from him today, and then spoke to him by phone; he is very interested in [Baren], but without 'net access yet, can't do much about it. I offered to act as the 'fingers on the keys' for him if he chose to contribute some ideas to the group, and I think he will be sending me some stuff to post for him. For the moment, let me introduce him by directing you to a small story I wrote about him in my newsletter: http://www.asahi-net.or.jp/~xs3d-bull/hyaku-nin-issho/1992/winter/10.html One particular topic that he would like the combined experience of the group to address is the matter of how to most effectively market/distribute/sell the finished prints. (He has just had some difficult experiences with some galleries in England, where he found that prints were actually stolen right from the gallery walls, and had to be fastened down with special brass attachments. It apparently wasn't a particularly successful trip ...) The discussions on [Baren] so far have been technical or philosophical in nature. He found these interesting, but would certainly like to hear what the members have to say about this important 'final' step in the printmaking process.
